Bom, eu nunca fui muito boa de blog, já tentei algumas vezes e sempre deixei de lado porque achava que não tinha assunto (a exceção é o Pérolas da Marli). Mas agora eu entrei nessa de "Occupy the Wardrobe" e acho que terei coisas pra falar pelos próximos meses, mesmo que sejam apenas queixas de não saber o que vestir.

Ao contrário das gurias, não tenho o dom de envolver as pessoas com o que eu escrevo. Posso parecer meio telegráfica (qual seria a versão atual dessa expressão? 'tuitógrafa'? 'tuitófona'?), mas prometo que tentarei postar o máximo de informações que eu tiver paciência pra escrever. Sim, paciência. Se eu achar que o texto está ficando chato ou repetitivo eu tento consertar e acabo me irritando, o que me leva a abandonar o post.

Só pra ninguém estranhar quando eu postar várias coisas que poderiam estar num único texto. =)


Well, I was never a very good blogger, I tried a few times and always left aside because I thought I dind't have anything to talk about (the exception is Marli's Pearls). But now I got into "Occupy the Wardrobe" and I think I will have things to talk about for months, even if they are complaints about not knowing what to wear.

Unlike the other girls here, I don't have the gift of engaging people with what I write. I feel a little telegraphic (which would be the current version of this expression? 'Twittergraphic'? 'Twitterphonic'?), But I promise I will try to post as much information that I have the patience to write. Yes, patience. If I find that the text is getting boring or repetitive I try to fix it and that ends up pissing me off, which leads me to abandon the post.

Just so you don't get surprised when I post a lot of things that could be a single text. =)

Como eu disse no post de abertura, tenho um sério problema com roupas de trabalho. Escolhi essa profissão séria (advocacia), mas não sou uma pessoa de preto e branco, gosto de cores, muitas cores!

Mas como vou passar um ano sem comprar roupas, fui fazer o inventário do que tem no meu armário e vi que preciso comprar algumas coisinhas. Como precisava de dicas, dei uma pesquisadinha por aí e achei esse blog ótimo, o Fashion 4 Fun, que tem um post que era justamente o que eu precisava! Adorei as dicas e as fotos que ilustram o post. Quero investir em vestidos pra trabalhar, porque acho que são práticos e a gente fica mais chique.

Não terminei o inventário, mas comecei a fotografar as roupas de trabalho que eu tenho. Assim fica mais fácil das amigas me ajudarem a montar looks! hehehehe

Na verdade, eu preciso comprar as mesmas coisas que a Anita mencionou aqui. Já comecei a comprar! Hahahaha Fui na Rabusch no final de semana e comprei uma calça para trabalhar. Eu tinha um vale compras que ganhei num evento do Blog Bem Linda e aproveitei pra trocar (valeu, Tati!). Uma pena que o vestido que eu gostei não tinha do meu tamanho na loja, só maior ou menor (uso 40). Do meu tamanho, tinha o vestido todo em preto (o que eu gostei era estampado). Serviu direitinho, mas eu toda de preto fico parecendo a Morticia Adams, não adianta, não consigo andar toda de preto.

Já a calça serviu perfeitamente, só achei meio salgado o preço (R$129,90). Optei por essa cor porque é mais verão e também porque tenho uma gata, a Olívia, que é clarinha. Quem tem gato sabe o martírio que é manter roupas pretas sem pêlos.

Como a cor é neutra, eu sei que dá pra combinar com várias coisas. A Rabusch tem uma coleção bem legal chamada work style. Fica mais fácil de se vestir quando a loja já te sugere looks prontos. Confesso que não são todas as peças da loja que eu acho legais, mas dá pra garimpar (e não, isso não é um post pago).

Também vi que não tenho muitos sapatos apropriados. Tenho uma sacola com sapatos que precisam de conserto, em especial um sapato vermelho que eu amo e que tem o salto no tamanho certo, na minha opinião. Ele é super confortável e custou barato, comprei na H&M quando fui para Paris em 2009.

O problema é que eu trabalhava no centro da cidade, onde as calçadas são péssimas. Dá pra ver como maltrataram meu pobre sapato. Acabei deixando-o de lado, mas tá na hora de reciclá-lo e deixá-lo novo em folha, pra encarar 2012.

Outro problema que há no meu guarda-roupa são roupas de inverno. Não tenho muitas, e as que eu tenho não são das melhores. Passo bastante frio nessa terra de sobreviventes (como dizia meu professor de geografia do segundo grau, porque temos todas as estações do ano... em um único dia!). Então é algo que eu preciso rever, agora. Mas no verão vai ser difícil pensar no frio!


Like I said in the opening post, I have a serious problem with work clothes. I chose this serious profession (Law), but I'm not a black and white kind of woman, I love colors, lots of color!

But as I'll spend a year without buying clothes, I decided to make an inventory of what is in my closet and I found out that I need to buy a few things. As I needed tips, I googled around and found this great blog, Fashion 4 Fun, which has a post that was just what I needed! I loved the tips and photos illustrating the post. I want to invest in dresses for work, because I think they are practical and I look more chic wearing a dress.

I haven't finished my inventory yet, but I started to take pictures of the work clothes I have. This way it'll be easier for my friends to help me create my looks! LOL

In fact, I need to buy the same things that Anita mentioned here. I have started to buy! Hahahaha I went to Rabusch on the weekend and bought a pair of pants. I had a gift voucher that I won in an event (Blog Bem Linda) and I used it to buy the pair of pants (thanks, Tati!). Too bad that the dress I liked was not available in my size in that store. There was a black version of the dress (the one I wanted was a floral one), it fit me perfectly but I think I look like Morticia Adams all dressed in black, it's just not for me! 

The pants fit me perfectly, but they were a bit expensive (R$ 129,90 - more or less US$70). I chose a bright gray color because it's summer and also because I have a cat, Olivia, and her fur is almost white. Cat people know what martyrdom is to keep black clothes hairless when you have a lovely feline in the house.

As this color is neutral, I know it'll be possible to match it with various things. Rabusch has a nice collection called work style. It is easier to dress when the store suggests take n'go looks. I confess that I didn't like all the pieces in this collection, but you'll probably like a thing or two (or even more!) (and no, this is not a paid post).

I also realized that I don't have appropriate shoes. I have a bag of shoes that need fixing, especially a pair of red shoes that I love which has heels in the right size, in my opinion. These shoes are super comfortable and they were fairly cheap, I bought them at H & M when I went to Paris in 2009.

The problem is that I worked in the city center, where the sidewalks are bad. You can see that by how abused my poor shoes look. I ended up leaving them aside, but it's time to recycle them and make them brand new, ready for 2012.

Another problem about my closet are winter clothes. I don't have many and the ones I've got are not the best. I'm always freezing during winter in this land of survivors (as my geography teacher in high school used to say, because we have a lot of climatic changes... on the same day!). So it's something I gotta think about NOW! But it'll be difficult to think about the winter while it's summertime in Brazil.

Os 3 items que preciso comprar antes do desafio começar / 3 items I need before the challenge starts

Meu inventário tá quase pronto para partilhar com vocês, mas já notei que tem algumas coisinhas que eu vou precisar comprar antes do desafio começar para eu poder sobreviver ate o final do ano.

1. Camisas, camisas, camisas. De acordo com o meu inventário eu tenho 9 camisas dessas estilo com gola e botao que a gente usa para trabalhar. Dessas 9, 3 não estão em bom estado, então consequentemente não são opções aceitáveis para se usar no trabalho. Além disso camisa não dura muito para mim, infelizmente. As clarinhas ficam encardidas, as mais escuras ficam com mancha do desodorante, outra eu perdi o botão, e claro que eu tenho algumas que estão um pouco apertadas demais na área do peito e eu acabo só usando no final de semana por cima de uma regata ou camiseta. Para ser bem sincera, das 9, só 3 são apropriadas para usar para trabalhar.

Me apaixonei por essas da Loft, mas elas estão fora do meu orçamento,
então vou tentar achar similares na Forever 21. 

2. Calças para o trabalho. Eu não gosto muito de calça, vou ser sincera. É muito mais fácil montar um look bonito com vestido e saia do que calça, na minha opinião. Mas a realidade é que de vez em quando você tem que variar o look, ou por pura preguiça de pensar em algo legal, ou porque a temperatura na rua está abaixo de zero e, vamos combinar, meia calça só ajuda até certo ponto. Eu tenho só 3 calças de trabalho no armário, e gostaria de pegar só mais uma ou duas numa loja mais baratinho para ter de reserva, porque quando o inverno começa, não dá para usar os mesmos 3 pares de calças todos os dias, né?

As calças que eu preciso são assim: de corte reto e cores neutras. Express é a loja onde costumo achar
minhas calças, mas esse ano vou tentar dar uma chance a lojas um pouco mais em conta,

3. Um par de sapatos com salto confortável. Okay, eu tenho sapato suficiente, mas o que eu queria mesmo é um novo par de sapatos vermelhos confortáveis. O meu preferido que comprei 5 anos atrás na Journey's do shopping aqui de Salt Lake (por míseros 19 dólares) bateu as botas esse verão. Eu usei muito e o sapato já era barato, então 5 anos foi o que deu pra tirar deles. Era com certeza o salto mais confortável que eu já tive na vida, e doeu bastante colocar ele na pilha de roupas para doar. Mas agora estou a procura de um que seja tão confortável quanto meu finado sapato vermelho e com um precinho camarada. Mas esse se eu não achar, não vai ser o fim do mundo! Posso esperar até 2013 para procurar de novo!

Nota-se que a minha lista é basicamente uma lista de coisas básicas para quem trabalha em escritório. Eu tenho a sorte de trabalhar em um lugar mais relax, onde as regras são menos rigorosas, mas mesmo assim, eles esperam que estejamos sempre bem vestidos. E eu acho que tendo várias pecas das que eu mencionei acima é o jeito mais fácil de estar sempre arrumadinha. Além disso, eu acho que já tenho muita roupa de final de semana que quase não ve a luz do sol porque eu trabalho demais!

I'm almost ready to share my inventory with you guys (busy busy busy week), mas with my preliminary look through, I already noticed that there are 3 things I'll need to get before starting this challenge.


1. Shirts, shirts and more shirts. According to my inventory, I have nine button-up shirts of those normally worn to work. But of those nine, three are not in good state anymore, therefore I can't really wear them to work. Besides that, shirts don't tend to last long in my closet, unfortunately. They stain easy, I loose their buttons, there's the one that's too tight around the chest area... To be fair, out of those 9, only three I can actually wear to work, everything else is "weekend wear."


2. Business pants. I'm not a big fan of trousers to be honest. I find it much easier to create a nice outfit with a skirt or a dress than with a pair of pants. But the truth is, once in a while you just have to suck it up and wear pants, specially when the temperature around here drops below freezing. I only have three business pants in my closet, and they are a little on the tight side (although I do plan on dropping those last 10 pounds that will help me fit comfortably in those pants again).


3. And finally, a comfy pair of red heels. I'm pretty confident I have enough shoes to last me through a year without acquiring a new one (heck, if my boots last the winter, maybe even two years!), but I recently had to donate my favorite pair of red heels. They were absurdly comfy, so they were my go-to pair of shoes for dancing and working. But they were cheap and they were getting old and too ugly for work. And now I've been on the hunt for a new one for months! I can't find the same pair again, unfortunately (found them at Journey's for 19 bucks about 5 years ago), so something similar (and priced similarly) will have to do. I won't die if I can't find one in time for the challenge, but it would be nice!


I'm sure you noticed my list is actually a list of basic items for people who work in offices. I'm lucky to work in a place that does not have such strict code of dressing, but I'm still expected to always be well dressed. And with the combination of the three items above, it would be easy to always look fantastic at work.

Ainda falta alguns dias até 2012, "coincidentemente" a mesma data em que eu não vou mais poder comprar roupas por um ano, e algumas das dificuldades de passar um ano sem fazer compra de nenhum artigo de vestimenta, sapatos ou acessórios já começam a pipocar na minha cabeça. Por exemplo: e o Halloween? Okay, para ser sincera, quase todos os anos eu improviso a minha fantasia com o que tenho no armário: já fui emo, Princess Peach, diaba, gato, barbie e esse ano fiz minha fantasia do zero com tecido, canetinha e tubos de esponja (sei lá como chama isso, achei no Home Depot!). Mas depois de fazer essa fantasia do zero pensei: "deu, Anita. Ano que vem você vai numa loja e compra uma fantasia decente." Mas isso foi dia 31 de Outubro, data em que esse projeto nem passava pela minha cabeça. E hoje quando acordei me dei conta: "E agora o que faço com o Halloween?" Afinal, tenho uma reputação a zelar, esse ano ganhei o prêmio de fantasia mais criativa do escritório.

Mas ai, já que ainda tenho alguns dias antes de 2012, essa belezuraa me aparece no meu RSS feed (falando em RSS feed, adiciona a gente ae para nao perder nossos posts novos!):

Não resisti. Sério mesmo, esse tipo de coisa fofinha é a minha cara! Já tenho uma coleção de camisetas de gatos da internet (só 4, nem é muito!) e um gorrinho de gatinho. Com esse cachecol (outro internet meme, BTW) a idéia para a minha fantasia se materializou lindamente: Crazy Cat Lady.

Viu? Até fantasia da para improvisar com o que tem no armário. Quando o Halloween chegar (daqui a 10 meses, bleh) eu mostro o passo a passo da fantasia. E pra quem acha que eu vou mudar de idéia até lá, saibam que a idéia para fantasia que usei esse ano eu tive no dia 31 de Outubro do ano passado.

There's still a few days before 2012, "coincidently" the time when I won't be able to shop for new clothes anymore for a year. Some of the difficulties I might face have already creeped their way out of my brain (I've always been of those people that think every possible outcome of making a decision). For example: what about Halloween? Most years I improvise my costumes with what I already have on my wardrobe, but this year, after winning "Most Creative Costume" at the office party I decided that making my own costume is too time-consuming and next year I'd just buy one. Well, now I can't do that.

But hey, since I still have a few days before 2012, and this beauty just popped up on my RSS feed (since we're on the RSS feed subject, ADD US!). I couldn't resist. Seriously, this is exactly the kind of crazy stuff I can pull off on a regular day. Also, I collect t-shirts with internet cats (memes or web-comic cats), and also own a Cat Beanie from H&M. So after I had already bought this little guy, the Halloween costume just suddenly came to me: Crazy Cat Lady. 

When it's time for Halloween (10 months from now...) I'll do a post on the actual costume (I already have a few ideas of what I'm going to use from my wardrobe to do it....) And to whoever thinks I might change my mind till then, let me warn you: I had the idea for this year's costume on Halloween the year before. 

366 dias sem comprar nada / 366 days without buying a single thing

"Então gente, já contei pra vocês que entre os dias 1 de Janeiro até 31 de Dezembro eu não vou comprar nadinha de roupa?"

Larguei essa bomba no meio de uma conversa sobre liquidações de sapatos de marca com algumas colegas de trabalho (é essa época do ano...). Elas rapidamente botaram a minha idéia pra baixo: "Eu não conseguiria ficar nem uma semana sem fazer compras!" "Um ano? Começa com um mês só, querida." E assim a conversa voltou pro rumo certo: o de compras. 

Mas olha só, um mês sem fazer compras é moleza. Acho que as pessoas esquecem que eu não sou milionária e que as vezes comprar roupa tem que ficar em segundo plano porque eu tenho contas mais importantes a pagar, como uma máquina de lavar roupa nova. É a vida de uma recém-graduada com contas pra pagar e tentando por um dinheirinho na poupança. Claro que eu gosto de comprar roupas tanto quanto outras gurias, mas eu não tenho condições de comprar roupa nova toda semana, e eu definitivamente não posso gastar dinheiro com um sapato Manolo Blahnik nem quando ele está em promoção por 40% de desconto. Ao invés disso, quando eu preciso (ou as vezes quando não preciso mas vejo algo difícil de resistir) eu faço as minha compras todas na Forever 21 (loja baratissíma aqui nos EUA). E mesmo pagando pouco nas roupas que uso, sempre recebo elogios. Então você agora entende porque fazer isso de não comprar roupa por um mês não é difícil? Além disso, o objetivo aqui é realmente desafiar a nós mesmas.

I decided to become one, albeit in a weird way.

Acho que 2012 vai ser um ano divertido: além de não comprar roupa, eu recém decidi me tornar vegetariana, então 2012 vai ser o ano sem roupa nova e sem carne. Vai ser um ano para repensar meus hábitos de consumo, economizar uma graninha e entender a sociedade de consumo em que eu vivo.

Já tenho vários posts planejados, e vou tentar blogar os meus looks diários sempre que possível (a não ser naqueles dias que eu me levanto e não uso nada interessante). Cheers!

I dropped that bomb in the middle of an informal conversation with co-workers about shopping and the latest deals we've scored on shoes (it is THAT time of the year, after all). They quickly dismissed me "I don't think I can go a week without shopping." "A year? No, start with a month." And the conversation quickly turned back to another sale, happening tomorrow.


But here's the thing, a month without shopping is easy. What those people seem to forget is that I'm not the 1%. My paycheck isn't unlimited and some months I have to defer all personal shopping so I can afford a new washing machine. It's just the life of a recent-college graduate who has bills to pay and is concerned about adding enough money to her savings every month. Yes I love to shop as much as the next girl, but I just can't afford to shop every week, and I definitely can't afford to buy designer shoes, no matter how much I salivate over reduced-priced Manolo Blahniks. It's not gonna happen. So instead, I'll get what I need (or sometimes what I don't really, but it was cute, cheap and made me look skinny) at Forever 21 and move on. And I still get plenty of compliments on what I wear, so no one's loss, right? We're doing this as a challenge for ourselves, so one month is really no challenge.
I think it will be an adventurous year (366 days, since 2012 is a leap year) and it will also make me reevaluate my buying habits, my savings goals and how I interact with a society so focused in consuming. I think this will be more than fun, it will be a learning experience.


I have tons of posts planned, and I will try to blog about my daily outfits as much as possible (some days are just sweatpants kind of day, so don't expect to see me here in those —actually, I don't own any sweatpants).

A nossa inspiração pra esse desafio veio do blog Um Ano sem Zara. Pra quem (ainda) não conhece a história, a Jojo, criadora do blog, decidiu ficar um ano sem comprar nada, e publica um look por dia.

Volta e meia dou uma olhadinha lá, e ela tem roupas lindas e caras! E muitas roupas! Eu tenho umas 3 peças da Zara, só, e nunca coloquei meus pés na Maria Bonita, porque não tenho dinheiro pras roupas de lá.

Aí bradei no twitter: quero ver fazer um ano sem Zara com o meu guarda-roupa! hehehe A Anita e a Fer responderam que faziam, sem problemas. Fiquei nessa sinuca de bico e acabei topando entrar no desafio também.

A primeira sugestão que eu dei foi a de que fizéssemos um inventário de roupas, sapatos e acessórios. Como ainda temos uns dias antes de 2012 chegar, esse inventário vai servir pra gente ver como andam nossos guarda-roupas e vai permitir que a gente compre algumas coisas que nos farão falta nesse um ano sem comprar.

Não fiz o meu ainda, mas sei há muito que meu maior problema são roupas para trabalhar. São escassas, por mais estranho que possa parecer. Explico: sou advogada. Logo, roupas de trabalho pra mim são quase uniforme. Mas eu não sou muito conformada, então tenho 2 terninhos só, e 3 camisas. É difícil se virar só com isso. De resto, tenho muita roupa de verão (porque eu odeio inverno e insisto em fingir que ele não existe) e sandálias.

Além disso, eu tenho muitas peças precisando de reparos urgentes: saltos de sapato podres, calças largas, calças compridas demais, vestido que descosturou... e nunca dou jeito de ir até a costureira. Então uma das metas é reciclar e consertar tudo o que eu puder, pra ter as coisas em dia pra esse 2012 sem compras.

Lógico que a gente previu umas exceções, ainda estamos debatendo sobre elas e logo escreveremos sobre isso aqui.

O bom desse ano sem comprar vai ser a economia. Ando precisando de dinheiro pra viajar, quem sabe não vem dessa idéia? Nosso objetivo é, também, nos tornarmos mais conscientes sobre nossos hábitos de consumo. Mas confesso que vai ser difícil resistir a uma liquidação!

Our inspiration for this challenge came from the blog A Year Without Zara. For those who do not (yet) know the story, Jojo, the blog creator, decided to spend a year without buying anything, and she publishes a daily look using the clothes she already had.
Every now and then I take a peek there, and she has beautiful and expensive clothes ! And also a lot of clothes! I have about 3 pieces that I bought at Zara, and I have never put my feet at Maria Bonita, because I have no money for the clothes they sell.
Then I cried out on Twitter: I want to see who can spend a year without Zara with my wardrobe! LOL Fer and Anita said they could, no problem. So I felt I should also accept the challenge and here I am.

The first suggestion I made was that we did an inventory of clothing, shoes and accessories. As we still have a few days before 2012 arrives, this inventory will serve to see what we've got in our wardrobes and will allow us to buy some things that would be missed in one year without buying clothes.

I didn't do my inventory yet, but I know that my biggest problem are working clothes. I've got few, as strange as it may seem. Let me explain: I am a lawyer. Therefore, working clothes for me are almost like an uniform. But I'm not very into formalities, so I have only two suits and three shirts. It's hard to dress with few clothes. Moreover, I have a lot of summer clothes (because I hate winter and I insist on pretending that it does not exist) and sandals.

In addition, I have many pieces needing urgent repair: rotten high heels, baggy pants, pants that are too long, unraveled dresses ... and I never find the time to go to the seamstress. So one of the goals is to recycle and fix everything I can, to get things ready for my 2012 without shopping.

Of course we predicted a few exceptions, and we are still debating about them. Soon we'll write about it here.

The good part of this year without buying will be the economy. I've been needing money to travel, maybe it will come from this idea? Our goal is also to become more conscious about our spending habits. But I confess it will be hard to resist a sale!
