A primeira semana do Occupy / Occupy's first week

E a primeira semana do Occupy the Wardrobe termina! Por enquanto acho que estamos indo bem, se conseguimos sobreviver as irresistíveis promoções de começo de ano, acho que os outros 359 dias do ano vão ser batata. Olha um pouquinho da minha caixa de emails nesse começo do ano:

Dureza né? Promoções de até 70% de desconto, entrega grátis, novos items em estoque, novos catálogos... Não é pra qualquer um resistir a isso. Se bem que Janeiro é historicamente um mês em que estamos endividados: pagando as contas da época do Natal, o meu carro (quando eu tinha um) tinha todas as taxas dele em Janeiro, faculdade... Então acho que Janeiro sempre foi um mês em que eu no geral não gastava muito comigo mesmo. Até porque Janeiro também é o mês de começar as resoluções de ano novo, e muitas delas incluem a de "poupar mais" ou "gastar menos." E é ainda mais fácil tomar essa iniciativa depois de um mês de grandes gastos. 

Por enquanto o Occupy está servindo como incentivo para eu gastar menos com tudo. Eu sei que ainda posso comprar maquiagem e outras coisas, mas ando pensando três ou quatro vezes (ao invés de só duas como de costume) sobre todas as compras que eu faço agora, até no supermercado! Okay, especialmente no supermercado: tanto doce em promoção é tentador, mas Janeiro também é o mês de voltar para a academia, né?

Fora isso estou investindo em novos hobbies: me inscrevi numa aula de costura numa loja de tecidos aqui perto (só falta ter alunos suficientes para fechar a turma), e estou planejando uma mega troca de roupas entre minhas amigas, além de estar inventando mil e um projetos para customizar minhas roupas ao longo o ano. Vai ser divertido!

If you doubt me, you should take a peek at my email inbox at the beginning of this month (photo above). Surviving this, I think the next 359 days will be a piece of cake!

But January is, historically, a month of savings. First because we have to pay off those ridiculous credit card bills from Christmas time, my car (when I had one) usually had all his inspections due this month, then there was the college bills, etc. So I've never been one to spend much in January. Besides, January is also the month to get started on our New Year's resolutions, and I'm sure plenty of us start the year wanting to save more and spend less. Easy enough to do after all we spent in December. 

So far Occupy is being a great incentive for me to spend less in general, not only clothing. I know I can still buy make up and other things, but I've been thinking 3 or 4 times (instead of my usual 2) before buying something, even at the grocery store. Okay, especially at the grocery store: all that candy on sale! So tempting, but then, January is also the month to get back to the gym!

And then I'm also investing in new hobbies: I've signed up for a sewing class, I'm planning a mega clothing swap with some friends, and I'm coming up with a thousand different DIY projects to customize the clothes I already have. It's going to be fun!
