Window Shopping / Olhando as Vitrines

I feel like we're now getting into a countdown to the end of the year. We've been blogging and not shopping for 30 weeks now, and this is way longer than I ever thought I could go without shopping. It's pretty impressive. As we go into our new week, the 30th of Occupy the Wardrobe, I feel like I should at least allow myself a few hours of window shopping (I'm strong enough, I can resist the lures of sales).

This week is free-theme week. No theme, basically, so it's a good opportunity to relax and wear something we might not have a chance to show off on the weeks we have a theme. And to start our week right, I decided to do some window shopping on some of my favorite stores, and pick up some outfits I'd love to be wearing if I could be shopping this week. So let's pretend I can wear those outfits this week:

From Ruche:
It's been really hot this week in Utah, and I'm sure this outfit would be perfect for one of those hot summer weekends.

From Ann Taylor:
For the work week, I feel like Ann Taylor has some of the classiest pieces out there. Especially if you like to get more creative too, and get away from the same old boring office look.

From Shop Sosie:
I just found out about this store a few months ago, and I'm anxiously waiting for January 2013 so I can finally try something out from there. I'm loving their little white dresses (LWD), which are a total hit this summer (and the chevron dress? I want this so much, it hurts! Any chance will still be on sale in 5 months? Yeah, I didn't think so either.)

Já estamos contando as semana para o final do ano! O desafio de não comprar roupas por um ano começou oficialmente 30 semanas atrás, e vamos combinar que isso é bastante tempo sem comprar já! Como essa semana o tema é livre de novo, resolvi que a essa altura do campeonato é seguro "olhar as virtrines" virtuais sem medo de ficar muito tentada a comprar algo!

Então vamos ver alguns dos looks que eu andei olhando por aí e curti bastante, e se esse fosse o ano de roupa nova toda semana, vocês me veriam por ae com um desses modelitos:


Da Ruche:
Está muito quente em Utah essa semana, então esse vestidinho praiano seria perfeito para um final de semana no deserto. 

Da Ann Taylor:
Para a semana de trabalho (e do ar condicionado) acho que a Ann Taylor tem as peças mais bacanas. São ótimas idéias também para sair da mesmice de roupa de trabalhar!

Da Shop Sosie:
Recentemente só que conheci essa loja, e mal posso esperar para 2013 começar para eu aproveitar e comprar uns vestidinhos novos na Shop Sosie. Seleceionei alguns vestidinhos brancos lindos que tão com tudo esse ano. E também esse vestido de zig zag, coisa mais linda. Será que ainda vai ter pra vender daqui 5 meses?

O vestido desse post foi emprestado pela blogueira Lara Osolins, sempre achei ele lindo, é da Zara, em uma malha estruturada que modela o corpo, tem formato evasé que eu adoro e além de uma graça ele é muito confortável. No dia dessa foto, a festa de aniversário de uma amiga em São Paulo completei o look com uma meia calça e um sapatinho fofo da Bottero que comprei num brechó.

Adoro poder trocar e emprestar roupas de amigas, também não me importo de emprestar quando sei que a roupa vai receber o mesmo carinho da amiga que recebe de mim. Tenho umas roupas minhas que volta e meia passeiam com as amigue.

Quem é você? Anna Arantes 44 anos,dublê de blogueira, Craft Designer, adepta do DIY e das artes visuais, nasci gaúcha cresci paulista e me conheci na Irlanda.

Qual seu estilo? Meu estilo é meio indefinido, gosto de moda mas não visto qualquer coisa, só por que é tendência. Como sou plus size (segundo uma amiga sou gorda PP) fico atenta para o que me favorece, sem esquecer o conforto e a qualidade. Gosto de peças vintage misturadas com peças atuais.

Como costuma ser seu processo de compra de roupas/sapatos/acessórios?Não compro qualquer coisa mas procuro preço e qualidade. Sempre penso na vida útil e na versatilidade da peça, não consigo comprar uma roupa pensando em vesti-la uma única vez. Adoro brechós e fiquei viciada quando morava na Irlanda. Em Porto Alegre conheço e sou cliente de alguns muito bons. Lojas de departamento são perfeitas para roupas básicas que podem inclusive ser customizadas, em bazares compro peças de algumas estilistas por preços ótimos. A maior parte dos acessórios que uso fui eu quem criou, também gosto de alguns designers. Raramente compro peças feitas em grande escala pois acho que um bom acessório faz toda diferença num look básico. Quanto aos sapatos, troco com amigas, compro em brechó quando estão semi novos e sempre pensando na vida útil. Jamais compro um sapato que sei que vai durar uma única estação.

Qual a última peça que comprou?Um cachecol feito com retalhos da estilista Alessandra Giordani e uma saia plissada cinza de malha, básica e versátil que estava em oferta na Renner ( adoro liquidação!)

O que acha de passar um ano inteiro sem comprar? Já passei muito tempo sem comprar roupas e acho bem saudável. Troquei, reformei e customizei roupas paradas no armário. Passei um bom tempo desenhando minhas roupas e pedindo para minha mãe costurar,ela era ótima nesse quesito, quando ela faleceu tive que voltar a comprar. Confesso que demorei pra me acostumar mas tenho curtido!

The dress in this post was lent to me by blogger Lara Osolins, and I've always loved it! It's from Zara, made with a structured fabric that really shapes your body. It's A-line, which I love, and besides being super cute, it's very comfortable. I wore it to a friend's birthday party, and I finished the look with sheer striped tights and cute Bottero shoes I bought off a thrift shop.

I love borrowing and lending clothes to friends, and I don't mind sharing my own clothes when I know they'll receive the same care that I give to it. I have some clothes that every once in a while are out for a spin with my friends. 

Who are you?

Anna Arantes, 44 years old, blogger, craft designer, Art and DIY enthusiast, I was born in Porto Alegre, grew up in São Paulo, and discovered myself in Ireland. 

What's your style?

My style is not really defined, I like fashion but I don't wear something just because it's trendy. Since I'm plus size (according to my friend, I'm a XS plus size), I'm always attuned to what looks best in me, without forgetting about comfort and quality. I like vintage pieces mixed with modern pieces. 

What's your shopping process like?

I don't buy just anything, I look for price and quality. I'm always concerned about the life of the product and how versatile it is. I can't buy something thinking I'd might only wear it once. I love vintage stores and was totally addicted to them when I lived in Ireland. In Porto Alegre I'm a client to a few good ones. Big department stores are perfect for the basics, and they can be customized. I buy designer pieces in bazaars for very good prices. Most of my accessories were created by me, but I also like some from a few designers. I rarely ever shop for items that were mass produced, because accessories make all the difference in a basic look. I often trade shoes with friends, or buy them at vintage shops when they are like new. 

What was the last thing you bought?

A patchwork scarf from designer Alessandra Giordani, and a super basic and versatile jersey pleated skirt that was on sale at Renner (I love a sale!). 

What do you think of not shopping for a year?

I've done lengthy periods of not shopping before, and I think it's healthy. I've traded, DIY and customized pieces that were not getting a lot of use. I spent a good time drawing my own clothes and asking my mom to sew them, she is great at it, but when she died I had to revert to buying clothes again. It took me a while to get used to it, but I'm enjoying it.

After 200 days not shopping, it's great to have friends who'll happily lend their clothes! This is "borrow from your friends week", and my good friend (and photographer) Cris Moreira, lent me this sweet little dress from Panty Doll, which is a local brand. It was a very cold day the day we took those photos, but I wanted to cheer up the dress a little bit, so I wore those green tights and a matching green scarf. Cris also lent me her earrings, as I had forgotten mine at home.

But borrow from friends isn't something new here, as I borrowed a dress from my friend Dani, which can be seen in this post.

Depois de 200 dias sem comprar, é ótimo ter amigas que alegremente emprestam roupas! Essa é semana do "pegue emprestado com as amigas", e a minha amiga querida (e fotógrafa) Cris Moreira, emprestou esse vestido lindo da Panty Doll, que é uma marca local. Estava um dia bem frio quando tiramos as fotos, mas eu quis animar um pouco o vestido, então usei com meias-calças verdes e uma mantinha combinante. A Cris também me emprestou os brincos, porque esqueci os meus em casa.

Mas emprestar das amigas não é novidade aqui, porque já peguei um vestido da minha amiga Dani, que pode ser visto aqui.

E Carol que é de ir até o fim, não foi.

E junto com o semestre, a vida virou para mim. Pedi demissão de um emprego, comecei em outro, fiz 33 anos e perdi alguém muito importante. Mudaram os ciclos de amizade, mudou o trabalho, mudaram meus horários, mudou a família (diminuiu um pouquinho).

Enfim, essa bagunça toda fez com que eu falhasse com alguns (muitos) posts nesse blog, o que não é justo com aquelas que se desdobram para manter tudo funcionando e atualizado.

Não, eu não comprei nenhuma peça de roupa e pretendo continuar sem comprar ... mas não posso mais me comprometer em fazer as fotos semanais.

Então passo de blogueira a leitora assídua desse blog, afinal ele é feito com muito carinho e empenho. Estarei torcendo até o fim para o sucesso das gurias.

Quem sabe eu apareço por aqui como leitora convidada?

This past semester life really changed for me. I started a new job, turned 33, and lost someone very important to me. Friendships changed, work changed, hours changed, the family changed (got a bit smaller). 


So, with all that going on, I ended up missing a few posts here, which is not fair with the other girls that go through a lot of work to make sure everything is like clockwork around here. 
No, I didn't buy anything, and I plan to stay this way... but I can't promise to update this blog weekly anymore. 
So now I go from blogger to reader, because I know with much love and care this blog is made. I'll be rooting for the success of those girls through the end! 


Maybe I'll show up as a guest blogger sometime. 

Pugs, not Drugs!

As you all probably know, this week's challenge is to come up with a look using an item borrowed from someone, anyone. I thought a lot about it, and decided that, I'm not the kind of girl who borrows clothes from other people, even from the best of friends. I'll properly admire my friends' clothes, wish I had something like it, but not really ever go ahead and ask to borrow something. Probably because when it comes to clothes, I don't like to lend them either. I'm just one of those people.

But there's one person I have no qualms about raiding their wardrobe, mostly because this person and I share the same closet: Michael, my boyfriend. I've often borrowed his jeans for the "boyfriend jeans" look (they're too big, I look like a 90s rapper), sweatshirts, ties (as you can see in this look a few months ago), and shirts (as you can see in this super-bright look a couple of weeks ago). So it was only fair that I borrowed from his closet again today!

I picked this Urban Outfitters t-shirt because just yesterday I told him that this is my favorite t-shirt from all the other funny shirts he owns. And it was just the perfect thing to borrow to run our errands this weekend. Since the shirt is a bit big on me (not that I'm complaining, I like my t-shirts big, anyway), I modified it a bit to make it more feminine: tucked inside skinny jeans and folded the sleeves. Then just a few girly accessories like a ton of colorful bracelets and jelly flats and we're good to go!

Como vocês devem ter percebido no post de ontem, essa semana o tema do Occupy é roupa emprestada! Eu pensei muito sobre esse assunto na semana passada, e no fim, resolvi que não ia pedir roupa emprestada porque não é meu estilo fazer isso. Eu sempre admiro as roupas das minhas colegas, mas nunca peço nada emprestado, e também não costumo emprestar nada, é só o meu jeito. 

Mas tem uma pessoa com a qual eu não tenho o menor problema em pegar coisa emprestada, e deve ser porque nós dividimos o mesmo armário: o Michael, meu namorado. Eu já peguei emprestado calças jeans para fazer um estilo "boyfriend jeans" (não rolou, ficaram enormes), casacos, gravatas (até usei num look passado), e camisas (aliás, não faz nem duas semanas desde que eu peguei uma emprestada com o Mike para um look do dia). Então nada mais justo que continuar a tradição e pegar algo dele emprestado!

Eu escolhi essa camiseta da Urban Outfitters porque ontem mesmo eu estava dizendo pro Mike que essa é a minha camiseta preferida dele. E foi perfeita para os dias nublados que tivemos esse finde. Usei esse look para ir as compras (de supermercado) no Domingo, e para ficar em casa. Como a camiseta é grandinha (eu gosto de camiseta larga!) eu tive que adaptar um pouco: coloquei ela dentro da calça e dobrei as mangas para ficarem mais curtas. Aí só adicionei mais uns acessórios e estava pronta!

Something Borrowed / Algo Emprestado

This week, we're going with a little different theme on Occupy. And that's cool, right? Different themes are always the most fun. This one, actually, has a lot of potential, and it's true to Occupy's inspiration. Our challenge this week, is to create looks with something borrowed.

While Vica and I are already lining up some items to borrow for our looks this week, we decided to do a little "wish list" for fabulous women we wish were our friends and we could borrow clothes from. As it is, we can't even borrow from each other since we live really far away.

Essa semana, a gente tem um tema um pouquinho diferente no Occupy, e isso é garantia de uma semana bacana. Aliás, esse tem muito potencial, e é bem o estilo do Occupy! O desafio essa semana, é fazer looks com alguma coisa emprestada.

Enquanto eu e a Vica já temos algumas peças escolhidas para emprestar, achamos que ia ser legal fazer uma "wish list" de pessoas com as quais nós adorariamos poder pedir algo emprestado para usar de vez em quando.

And, both of us would really like to borrow somethings from this lady: Diane Kruger.  It was hard to choose just a few items we'd like to borrow from her... And while we are at it, we'd probably borrow Joshua Jackson too for a spin in the neighborhood. But really, doesn't Diane look like the kind of gal that would be super okay with having her friends borrowing stuff from her? I think so. 

E nós duas adoraríamos poder pegar algo emprestado da Diane Kruger! Aliás, foi difícil escolher só algumas peças. E já que estamos falando sobre isso, não tem mal nenhum emprestar o Joshua Jackson um pouquinho também, né Diane? Só pra dar uma volta. Mas voltando ao assunto, a Diane não tem cara de ser super parceria para emprestar as roupas? Amigona.

Snow White / Branca de Neve

It's been so cold here! So to come up with my Snow White look, I matched this white wool sweater with this yellow mustard leather jacket I got from my mom. I've been wearing mostly black these days, as most of my winter clothes are black. This was a good change.

Tem feito tanto frio aqui! Então pra montar meu look Branca de Neve, eu combinei esse blusão branco de lã com essa jaqueta de couro amarelo mostarda que a minha mãe me deu de presente. Tenho usado preto quase todos os dias, já que praticamente todas minhas roupas de inverno são pretas. Esse look foi uma boa mudança.
