Color Blocking... Sort of.

Life has been CRAZY busy lately. I've been taking some great webinar classes after work, and freelancing some small projects, and working on a duvet-cover/quilt for my bed (you can see my progress here). So that's why I'm only sharing the look I wore on Monday today! I decided to revisit some of my favorite themes from last year's challenges, but this time making sure I'm wearing something new! This week, I revisited our color block week, well, sort of. Last minute, I threw in a striped shirt instead, so I won't claim this is a total color block, but let's concentrate on the bright green blazer and vivid purple pants, shall we? Color block gold.

Oh, well, this week's theme is really a challenge! My God, I spent the whole week thinking about what to wear.  We have a serious problem here at Occupy the Wardrobe and her name is Anita. Yes! It's totally unfair that she gets to post her looks on Mondays and then on Friday I'm completely wasted and out of ideas and with the duty of closing the week! 

Of course, I'm just joking, we all love Anita's looks, they're perfect and inspiring. She says my clothes are better than hers, but I disagree. I love her clothes. It's a pity that we're so far away, otherwise we could swap clothes!

But we'll at least swap days, and I'll get to post on a Monday! lol

Anyway, what the hell is color blocking?! I Googled it, but my Google insists that just because I'm Brazilian, I want results in Portuguese, so I had a hard time finding what I was looking for (I typed, in English, "what is color blocking" and f... Google came up with this).

But I also found this super cute mom-to-be who wrote a simple post on the subject.

And I also found this site that I now love, called The Curvy Fashionista. I guess this one's for me! They have this cool post on the subject of color blocking. And this great post on what to wear to work, being curvy!

Bah, o tema dessa semana é realmente um desafio! Deus meu, passei a semana inteira pensando no que usar! Nós temos um sério problema aqui no Occupy the Wardrobe e ele se chama Anita! Sim! É totalmente injusto que ela poste aqueles looks lindos na segunda-feira e chegue a sexta-feira e eu esteja acabada, totalmente sem idéias e sem ânimo, e tenha que encerrar a semana!

Tô brincando, claro. Todas nós amamos os looks da Anita porque eles são perfeitos e inspiradores! Ela diz que as minhas roupas são melhores do que as dela, mas eu não concordo! Amo as roupas dela! É uma pena que a gente more tão longe, senão podíamos fazer troquinhas.

Mas pelo menos vamos trocar de dias e vai chegar minha vez de postar looks na segunda-feira! hehehe

De qualquer maneira, que porcaria é esse tal de color blocking? Usei o Google, mas ele me sacaneia e acha que só porque sou brasileira eu procuro resultados em português. Deu um trabalhinho pra encontrar o que eu queria (digitei, em inglês, "o que é color blocking?" e a porcaria do Google me veio com isso).


Mas também encontrei essa gravidinha fofa, que escreveu um post bem simples sobre o assunto.


Também encontrei esse site que eu já amo, The Curvy Fashionista (algo como a Amante de moda com curvas), onde tem um post super legal sobre color blocking e outro muito bom sobre roupas pra ir trabalhar para meninas com curvas.


Semana que vem o desafio fica ainda mais difícil: nosso tema será o Carnaval! <o>

O elo com todas as cores / The link between all colors

Cores e mais cores é o tema desta semana ou como atualmente tem se dito: "color block".

Se voce é como eu que até então não sabia ao certo o significado desta tendência, vale mais a pena conferir as fotos do que buscar o conceito deste estilo de vestir:

Nota-se que nada mais é do que a combinação de cores (diga-se: muitas cores) com tonalidades fortes e marcantes em um mesmo visual: o color block, ou bloco de cor, veio para ficar. A moda é usar peças minimalistas, contrastando tons frios com quentes ou harmonizando cores semelhantes. (Fonte: M de Mulher)

Para mim foi difícil montar um look inspirado neste conceito, já que tenho por hábito mesclar peças de cores fortes com outras neutras....

Para dar uma ajudinha pintei as unhas em tom de rosa. E quanto ao visual, este foi o máximo que eu consegui para não afetar meu estilo de vestir.

Espero que gostem e se incentivem a ousar na mistura de cores como eu fiz.

Colors and more colors is this week's theme, or how the kids say nowadays: "color block."

If you are like me and had no idea what that trend meant, it's a good idea to do some online research and check out some pictures of what this style means. You'll notice that it's nothing more than combining bold colors in the same look. The Color Block is here to stay. I had a hard time putting a color block look together, because I tend to mix bold colors with neutral ones... To help the look a little, I painted my nails pink. And that's what I got to show for my week outfit, without changing too much my style:

O mundo é feito de contrastes: de cores, sabores, aromas e estações. Ontem a Anita publicou seu look Color Block em pleno inverno e debaixo de chuva e, para contrariar, hoje o meu vai ser um visual praticamente praiano. Não estou no litoral, mas sexta-feira será o meu destino. Praia, carnaval e muitas cores.

The world is full of contrasts: colors, flavors, scents and seasons. Yesterday, Anita posted her color block look in the middle of a rainy day. Just to be contrary, my look today is a beach look! I'm not at the beach yet, but on Friday that's my destination. Beach, Carnival and lots of colors!

It rains and pours here in Salt Lake City, and my plan for a colorful and fun color block outfit were washed away with all this rain. I had to take the weather into consideration, and the outfit I had planned to wear today, just didn't go well with the weather:

For this outfit to work, I wanted pink heels, and there's no way I can go out in heels in this weather. I finally had a stroke of inspiration and remembered my beautiful maxi skirt from Anthropologie that I got last year. I was waiting for warmer days to wear it, but somehow, it just felt like the right outfit for this rainy day:

And this is how I came up with a very simple and wearable color block instead of the crazy combination of colors I actually wanted to do, since I feel the brights are way more color block than this red and black, but hey, the red and black are much easier to make it work on a rainy day!

I did quite the research before coming up with an outfit for this week. Color block has always fascinated me, but it does not strike me an easy outfit to pull off. But those ladies on my inspiration board pull it off beautifully, and I was inspired by them to create my look this week. For more inspiration looks, you can check out my board on Pinterest.

Chove e chove aqui em Salt Lake hoje, e meus planos de usar um look super colorido foram por água abaixo. Tive que levar isso em consideração para montar o meu look de hoje, então o vestido que eu tinha planejado usar não deu. Era esse o look que eu pretendia vestir hoje:

Mas para esse look dar certo, eu queria usa-lo com meu salto cor-de-rosa, mas sem chance de usar salto com essa chuva/neve. E foi aí que tive uma inspiração: minha linda saia maxi da Anthropologie que comprei ano passado. Eu estava guardando ela para usar quando esquentasse mais, mas ao invés disso achei que ela ia combinar com o meu look nesse dia chuvoso:

Achei esse um look color block bem fácil de usar, ao invés das combinações de cores mais malucas que a gente costuma ver por ae (mas assim que o sol sair essa semana eu uso meu vestido azul com o suéter rosa, prometo!). 

Eu pesquisei bastante antes de montar meu look essa semana, queria ter certeza que eu podia fazer algo bem no estilo color block, mas um estilo que desse pra sair na rua sem parecer uma palhaça. Não é um tipo de composição fácil de fazer, mas as moças abaixo conseguem, e foi elas que me inspiraram para eu compor o meu look de hoje. Eu coloquei mais um monte de fotos de inspiração no meu Pinterest, se você quiser dar uma olhada para criar o seu look color block!
