Ho ho ho, merry Christmas! And merry last full week of Occupy the Wardrobe! I feel like first I should clarify that this week is not the end of Occupy the Wardrobe, it's just the final days of our challenge of not shopping for a year, to which, all seems to indicate, I will succeed bravely! What better Christmas gift than this one, the satisfaction of knowing that I took this challenge, that many thought it was crazy, all the way through the end. In fact, I loved it so much, I might do another year!

Ho ho ho, feliz natal! E feliz última semana de Occupy the Wardrobe! Primeiro preciso esclarecer que essa semana não é o fim do Occupy the Wardrobe, são apenas os últimos dias do nosso desafio de não comprar por um ano, e, ao que tudo indica, vou cumpri-lo com louvor! Que melhor presente de natal do que este: a satisfação de saber que eu aceitei esse desafio, que muitos disseram ser louco, e consegui levá-lo até o final. Na verdade, gostei tanto, que é capaz que eu faça de novo noutro ano!

Monday Inspiration because it might be our last! / Inspiração de 2a feira: porque pode ser a nossa última!

So the world might end this Friday, and we don't know what to expect or how it will happen, but one thing is for sure: not even with the threat of global apocalypse will I go shopping before 2012 is over. Now, what to wear on the big day?

I think some people will opt for the practical, since they might be expecting natural disasters or zombies, so for them comfort and practicality is key: cargo pants, military books, coats with lots of pockets, and a backpack full of emergency supplies and an occasional baseball bat.

Others, like me, will probably want to toast the end of the world in style. Since we can't make it to an Oscar red carpet, might as well take this chance to wear the most extravagant gown we can find in our closets. Cheers!

Tiffany, Alexander McQueen, and Loubotin... Oh no, I can't find any of those in my wardrobe, but a girl can dream, right?

O mundo acaba nessa sexta-feira, e não sabemos o que esperar ou o que vai acontecer, mas uma coisa é certa: nem mesmo a ameaça de um apocalipse global vai me fazer ir às compras antes de 2012 acabar. Mas o que usar no "grande dia"?

Acho que algumas pessoas vão optar por algo prático, já que vão estar esperando desastres naturais ou zumbis. Assim, conforto e praticidade são essenciais: calças cargo, botas militares, casaco com muitos bolsos, uma mochila cheia de itens de primeira necessidade e um taco de baseball por via das dúvidas.

Outras pessoas, como eu, vão preferir brindar o fim do mundo com estilo. E já que não vamos conseguir chegar no tapete vermelho do Oscar, podemos usar as melhores roupas que temos em nossos armários! Feliz fim do mundo!

THREE weeks to go till I can shop again guys! I think I'll prepare something special for next week so I can have YOU help me choose where I should shop first... and what should I buy! I think it would be a fun thing to do considering how long you've been here following our progress and rooting for it to succeed!

Deep breath, Occupiers... We're less than one month away from the end of our challenge! 11 months are already gone, and no shopping has been made by... well, just me at this point. I'm the only one left who has not shopped, but Vica would have also been at this point today if she hadn't gone and got herself knocked out! :)

Monday Inspiration: Caribbean / Inspiração de Segunda-Feira: Caribe

In lieu of clothes, let's start today's post with pictures of lush sandy beaches and blue oceans... because our theme of the week is the CARIBBEAN! (I feel like I'm announcing a vacation, but sadly none of us are actually going to the Caribbean this week).

Heaven, right? So the inspiration for this week is to mix and match those beautiful shades of blue and sand, and create an outfit that is worthy of the Caribbean! So if you can't make it there this week, we can at least bring the Caribbean to us.

Em vez de roupas, comecei o post de hoje com imagens de praias exuberantes e oceanos azuis... porque o nosso tema da semana é o Caribe! (Eu sinto que estou anunciando um período de férias, mas, infelizmente, nenhum de nós está realmente indo para o Caribe esta semana).

Paraíso, né? Então a inspiração para esta semana é de misturar e combinar esses belos tons de azul e areia, e criar um look que é digno do Caribe! Então, se você não pode ir ao Caribe esta semana, podemos pelo menos trazer o Caribe para nós.

This weekend I wore 2 different pink and black outfits, trying to get a good opportunity for photos, but alas, it didn't happen. Those were my last minute attempt, took late at night on Monday! I wore this to work yesterday, and we had a pie contest then! So here's a picture of me with my pie (who did not win, but my other pie that I didn't take a picture with, got 3rd place).

Essa semana o post é curtinho porque a minha semana também é curta! Mas tá aí meu look rosa e preto para essa semana (não é uma das minhas combinações de cores preferidas), que eu usei ontem no trabalho e a gente teve um concurso de tortas para a semana de Ação de Graças. Eu tirei 3o lugar, mas não com essa torta da foto, outra.

The secret is in the layers / O segredo está nas camadas

Honest moment? I'm always at a loss when people say they can't wear their beloved summer dresses in the winter. I don't get it, because a below freezing temperature, never stopped me (as you have seen it here, here, and here). The secret is just to layer a bunch of other clothes below and over your dress! For example, I always have very thick tights under the dress, a slip, really good socks and warm boots. Then depending on the dress, I also layer a cotton long-sleeved shirt under it. Then on top, I always have a thin cardigan, followed by a good and reliable snow jacket. Top it off with a scarf, hat, and gloves, and no way you'll get cold! And as soon as you're inside your office or anywhere else, you loose the big snow jacket, and you'll be rocking the summer dress on a 30 F day like the days we got this weekend! Anyway, here's some layered looks for inspiration:

Com o inverno mais que chegando aqui no hemisfério norte, chegou a hora para a maioria do pessoal por os vestidinhos de verão pro fundo do armário, e colocando todos os casacos pra frente. Mas pra ser bem sincera, esse tipo de coisa não acontece no meu armário. Roupa de verão não tem seu uso só no verão, especialmente os vestidos. O segredo está em saber como usar camadas quando as temperaturas ficam abaixo de zero. Por exemplo, um vestidinho fino pode encarar a nevasca muito bem, só juntar ele a um bom par de meia calças (daquelas bem grossonas, e se duvidas até uma por cima da outra alguns dias), meias bem quentinhas, e uma bota até o joelho por cima. Dependendo do vestido dá pra colocar uma blusa de manga comprida por baixo, adicionando mais uma camada quentinha. Por cima, um cardigan soltinho, e um belo casacão por cima. Só adicionar o cachecol, o gorrinho, e as luvas e tu tá pronta para encarar qualquer frio! Ficam umas montagens aqui no blog para vocês se inspirarem. 

Monday Inspiration: Travel Wear / Inspiração para a 2a Feira: Roupa para Viajar

It's worth mentioning at the beginning of this week that we're on the final stretch of the Occupy the Wardrobe project! Two more months till we can shop again, or, well, shall we say, two months till I can shop again, since I'm still the only one holding on without any purchases! Two months to go, and I'll be honest and say I already started doing mental lists on my head of things I'd like to buy. I haven't decided which direction to go next year with Occupy yet, so I'll wait till I have that decided till I actually start planning the next purchases!

Anyway, for this Monday, the inspiration is Travel! And it's such a timely theme too, last week I was just in Southern California enjoying a well deserved break from work! And I don't know about you, but packing outfits for a trip, no matter how short, is always kind of a hassle. You have to think of so many variables: the weather, how much walking you will do, is it a beach, will there be night life, fancy restaurants, etc etc. I tend to pack with the goal of being ready for anything, but sensibly. I pick a color scheme, and bring clothes that match well with each other, in case I change my mind last minute about that the outfit I had planned to wear on a certain day!

Here are some ideas of what to pack for a nice weekend in California, like the one I just had (all images from Polyvore users):

Só dois meses até o final do ano! Uau! Vou ser sincera e dizer que já comecei a pensar em coisas que quero comprar quando 2013 começar, e tenho cobiçado as novas coleções de inverno que estão chegando as lojas agora (e provavelmente estarão em promoção quando eu puder comprar!). Mas como ainda não decidi em que direção levar o Occupy no próximo ano, não vou decidir o que comprar até depois disso!

Mas como hoje é segunda feira, é dia de se inspirar com o tema da semana: viagem! E é um tema ótimo porque eu acabei de voltar de uma viagem para a Califórnia! E eu não sei se vocês tem esse problema também, mas eu levo horas planejando o que usar e o que levar na mala para uma viagem. Normalmente eu escolho uma paleta de cores básica e monto os looks baseados nela, e sempre garantindo que várias peças combinem entre elas, caso eu mude de idéia na última hora (acontece sempre). 

E no post de hoje coloquei algumas fotos de idéias de looks legais para se levar na mala para um final de semana na Califórnia como o que eu acabei de ter!

Monday Inspiration: Halloween! / Inspiração de 2a Feira: Dia das Bruxas

Halloween is finally here! I'm not gonna lie, I have become more and more enthusiastic about Halloween in the past few years. It's probably because of all the candy, let's be honest here. But I guess I found out that I love dressing up. So far, I have pretty much came up with all of my costumes on my own, and they are.. uh.. pretty much very handmade, as you can see below:

O Dia das Bruxas está chegando aqui nos EUA, e a cada ano eu me empolgo mais com essa data. Provavelmente é por causa dos doces e chocolates, né? Mas eu acho que também descobri que adoro me fantasiar (nerd). Nos últimos anos aqui, todas as minhas fantasias foram inventadas com coisas que eu já tinha no armário, e... é, por isso elas foram todas meio precárias:

But before I share with you all the costume I'm wearing this year on my weekly post later this week, first I want to talk about using Halloween as an inspiration to dress up this week! For starters, I don't think we necessarily need to dress up in a costume: you can be in the spirit of the Holiday just by taking advantage of some halloween-ish themes and colors such as: orange, black, purple, and maybe even a neon green? And for patterns there are stars, black cats, and skulls to abuse of. So here are a few outfits I put together for inspiration, with the help of polyvore.com: 

Logo mais essa semana eu vou mostrar a fantasia que eu fiz para o Dia das Bruxas desse ano, mas enquanto o meu post não chega, queria dividir algumas idéias de roupas legais inspiradas no dia das bruxas para usar no dia a dia, sem ser muito com cara de fantasia. Por exemplo, dá para escolher roupas com a paleta de cores do dia das bruxas: laranja, roxo, preto, e até um verde neon. E estampas também, como estrelas, caveiras, e gatos.
