Look of the Day/Look do dia: French Navy

Oh hello lovely Occupiers. Today Vica and I switched, so I have the pleasure of writing the first post of the week! And what a week this one is going to be! The theme is Navy, French Navy to be more precise, and we're bringing back one of my favorite trends: Stripes. And to add to the fun, the color palette we usually see on Navy outfits include a lot of gold, navy, black, white, and red. All favorites.

See? Here's the color palette I made. You can't really see the white, but it's there. 

And here is a bunch of images that I used to inspire my outfit. All those pieces were on sale a few weeks ago on Ideeli.com. Unfortunately they are all gone by now, but I love how they styled them together. I was especially inspired by the look with the red pants:

Good thing I can't shop, or I'd have bought every single piece from this sale. 

I don't have a lot of striped shirts, only those two I talked about a long long time ago (here). And they were both black. So I had to leave my favorite navy blue colors out of this outfit, and concentrate on the combination of black stripes and red. Here's my outfit:

I wore this cute litte outfit to go hang out with my friend Sara Quintero (she will be guest blogging for us very soon!) and try out her new DSLR camera. Which reminds me, all the picture in this post were shot by her! The location is my all time favorite, Grand America Hotel. Just love that place, can't help it.

Olá queridas amigas do Occupy the Wardrobe. Hoje eu e a Vica trocamos de dia, então eu tenho o prazer de escrever o primeiro post da semana! E que semana nós vamos ter pela frente, o tema é Navy, ou seja, inspirado na marinha Francesa. E com esse tema vamos revisitar uma das minhas tendências preferidas do último ano: Listras. E para aumentar a diversão, a paleta de cores do tema Navy é cheia das minhas preferidas: dourado, azul marinho, branco, preto e vermelho.

E essa semana eu fui buscar inspiração pela net para compor o meu visual, já que não costumo brincar muito com esse estilo. Algumas semanas atrás a  Ideeli.com estava cheia de peças Navy a venda, e eu me apaixonei por várias. Ainda bem que não posso gastar dinheiro ou teria comprado TODAS. O meu look preferido foi o da calça jeans vermelha:

Eu não tenho muitas busas listradas (só duas, que eu já falei a respeito a um tempão atrás aqui. E as duas são pretas, o que complica para tentar montar um visual marinha sem azul marinho. Mas com essas fotos da coleção da Ideeli eu me senti um pouco mais tranquila combinando minhas listras pretas no look.

Usei esse look no Domingo para sair com a minha amiga Sara Quintero (que logo mais vai protagonizar um guest post da semana) para brincar com a nova camera dela. Aliás, todas as minhas fotos nesse post foi ela que tirou! Mal posso esperar para ela colocar o blog dela no ar e ver o que ela vai aprontar por lá.

Outfit of the day: Color Block / Look do dia: Color Block

It rains and pours here in Salt Lake City, and my plan for a colorful and fun color block outfit were washed away with all this rain. I had to take the weather into consideration, and the outfit I had planned to wear today, just didn't go well with the weather:

For this outfit to work, I wanted pink heels, and there's no way I can go out in heels in this weather. I finally had a stroke of inspiration and remembered my beautiful maxi skirt from Anthropologie that I got last year. I was waiting for warmer days to wear it, but somehow, it just felt like the right outfit for this rainy day:

And this is how I came up with a very simple and wearable color block instead of the crazy combination of colors I actually wanted to do, since I feel the brights are way more color block than this red and black, but hey, the red and black are much easier to make it work on a rainy day!

I did quite the research before coming up with an outfit for this week. Color block has always fascinated me, but it does not strike me an easy outfit to pull off. But those ladies on my inspiration board pull it off beautifully, and I was inspired by them to create my look this week. For more inspiration looks, you can check out my board on Pinterest.

Chove e chove aqui em Salt Lake hoje, e meus planos de usar um look super colorido foram por água abaixo. Tive que levar isso em consideração para montar o meu look de hoje, então o vestido que eu tinha planejado usar não deu. Era esse o look que eu pretendia vestir hoje:

Mas para esse look dar certo, eu queria usa-lo com meu salto cor-de-rosa, mas sem chance de usar salto com essa chuva/neve. E foi aí que tive uma inspiração: minha linda saia maxi da Anthropologie que comprei ano passado. Eu estava guardando ela para usar quando esquentasse mais, mas ao invés disso achei que ela ia combinar com o meu look nesse dia chuvoso:

Achei esse um look color block bem fácil de usar, ao invés das combinações de cores mais malucas que a gente costuma ver por ae (mas assim que o sol sair essa semana eu uso meu vestido azul com o suéter rosa, prometo!). 

Eu pesquisei bastante antes de montar meu look essa semana, queria ter certeza que eu podia fazer algo bem no estilo color block, mas um estilo que desse pra sair na rua sem parecer uma palhaça. Não é um tipo de composição fácil de fazer, mas as moças abaixo conseguem, e foi elas que me inspiraram para eu compor o meu look de hoje. Eu coloquei mais um monte de fotos de inspiração no meu Pinterest, se você quiser dar uma olhada para criar o seu look color block!

Desafio/Challenge: Anthropologie

Momento da verdade: eu adoro a loja Anthropologie, assino o catálogo e o newsletter, e estou sempre devorando as vitrines que eles inventam. Mas o estilo da loja per se, não me identifico muito. É bem vintage-inspired com peças caríssimas e em cortes que nem sempre ficam muito legais em mim. Mas não adianta, mesmo assim estou sempre passeando pelo site e pela loja, na esperança de que um dia eu vá encontrar algo que vai ficar lindo em mim (e caber no orçamento). Isso aconteceu na minha última ida ao shopping, encontrei uma saia longa vermelha que é a MINHA cara e saiu super baratinha. Como tinha falado da saia e da loja naquele post, a Vica foi lá e clicou e se apaixonou pela loja (mal ae, Vica!). E esse vestido verde chamou a atenção dela. Eu pra ser sincera não tinha achado lá tão empolgante, mas olhei pela segunda vez quando ela disse que tinha amado o vestido. E olhando com calma pensei: eu acho que consigo recriar esse look só com o que já tenho no armário.

Confession time: I love Anthropologie, I subscribe to their catalogues and email newsletters, and I'm always drooling over their windows creations. But their vintage-inspired style is not really my type, besides being super unaffordable. No matter, I still spend considerable amount of time in their physical and online stores, admiring their latest creations and hoping to find something that will look good on me (and on my wallet). That actually happened last time I went shopping, when I found a red maxi skirt that was very me. Since I talked about Anthropologie in that post, Vica went to check out Anthropologie and fell in love with that green dress on the top of this post. I didn't really think it was that impressive the first time I saw it, but since she was excited about it, I decided to give it a second look. And when I did that I realized that I could easily (kind of) recreate that outfit with what I already had in my wardrobe. 

O meu preferido foi o look da direita, não imaginei que ficaria tão legal. Vou usar certo para trabalhar assim que as minhas férias de final de ano acabarem! O look da esquerda eu achei divertida a combinação de cores, mas não sei se usaria isso pra sair na rua.

And you know what, in the end I really liked the combinations. The one in the right was my favorite, I'll definitely wear it to work one of these days. I thought the color combination in the left look was fun, but I don't think you'll see me wearing that out there in the wild. 

A peça principal eu tinha: um vestido de cintura baixa mais ou menos parecido com esse que comprei na ASOS um tempo atrás, só que sem mangas e azulão. Para o look "noite" eu adicionei uma blusa por baixo do vestido para recriar as mangas do vestido da Anthropologie.

The main item I had: a similar drop-waist dress I bought from ASOS quite a while ago, except mine is sleeveless and royal blue. For the "night" look, I added a blouse under the dress to recreate the sleeves of the original dress.

Já que usei o que tinha no armário, me custou US$0! Muito melhor, não?

Thankfully, I had similar things in my wardrobe, so I spent a total of $0 dollars to recreate this look. Much better.
