Cool and Sustainable Idea: The Versalette / Uma idéia super versátil: A Versalette

I came across this project a while ago on Kickstarter, but for some reason or other decided not to back it (ah, the regret!). And today, this idea crept back into my consciousness, and I immediately had to come here to write a post and share this with you all.

This is a super versatile item of clothing, I mean, I have a convertible dress that is super versatile, but this just goes beyond it. One piece, the Versalette, that can be worn in TWENTY different ways, as different dresses, skirts, shirts, cardigans, bolero, scarf, and even a purse. Now, if it could only double as a shoe too... Pretty incredible.

But I'll be honest and say, it's not its versatility that really got to me, but the fact that the Versalette is made with fabric 100% recycled — 50% plastic bottles and 50% cotton scraps. I mean, how cool is that? I might have to get it in 2013 (Spoiler alert: as I think of my personal goals for Occupy the Wardrobe in 2013, sustainable clothing is high on my list).

Vi este projeto há um tempo atrás no Kickstarter, mas por alguma razão ou outra decidi não participar dele (ah, o arrependimento!). E hoje, essa idéia deu as caras de novo na minha cabeça, e eu na hora quis vir aqui e compartilhar isso com vocês.

A idéia é simples e muito legal: a Versalette. Este é um item super versátil de roupa, que pode ser usado de vinte maneiras diferentes, como vestidos, saias, camisas, cachecols, bolero e até mesmo uma bolsa.  Incrível.

Mas vou ser honesta e dizer, não foi a versatilidade da Versalette que me conquistou, mas sim o fato dela ser feita com tecido 100% reciclado - 50% garrafas de plástico de 50% de retalhos de algodão. Quer dizer, como não achar isso o máximo? Acho que em 2013 eu compro um (Spoiler: tenho pensado nos meus objetivos para o Occupy the Wardrobe em 2013, e roupa sustentável é algo que quero explorar).

A break from the cold weather! I thought that I wouldn't be able to come up with a look this week, as it has been so cold here (it's winter time in Brazil, and in the south, where I live, it's been really cold). But today is quite a warm sunny day and I was able to wear a shirt.

Uma pausa do frio! Achei que não ia conseguir fazer um look pra essa semana, porque tem estado tão frio! Mas hoje até que está um dia quentinho (e ensolarado), e consegui vestir a camisa!

Before I start on my post, I just wanted to note that today, we celebrate 7 months of not shopping for clothes! Just 5 more to go! Can't believe we're here already, and also, can't believe how FUN it's been.

This week our theme is the button-down shirt, a classic staple on every woman's closet. I love those kind of shirts and wear them year round. My favorite are the ones in really light fabrics, such as chiffon, cotton, and silk, because I can wear them year round and dress up any outfit. The chambray shirts are a new favorite, and I hope this trend sticks around forever.

So here's what I wore yesterday to go to work! I wanted to wear a shirt layered with something, but it's so damn hot around here lately, I was having a really hard time coming up with something. This was my last minute idea: my lightest shirt and a comfy dress over it.

Antes que eu escreva esse post, uma notinha para celebrar 7 meses sem compras! Mais 5 e a gente termina esse desafio! Tem sido muito divertido!

Essa semana o tema é a camisa, um clássico no guarda roupa feminino. Eu adoro esse tipo de camisa, uso o ano inteiro. Minhas preferidas são as de tecido bem fino, como o chiffon, o algodão e a seda. Também gosto muito das camisas jeans, e espero que essa moda continue por mais uns bons anos. 

Ontem usei esse look para ir trabalhar. Eu queria fazer um look layered para a camisa, mas nesse calor de Utah ficou complicado. Na última hora escolhi essa camisa super fininha e coloquei por baixo de um vestido mais comfortável. 

Como já disse, adoro camisas e uso bastante. Fiz uma montagem com todos meus looks com camisa que fiz para o Occupy!

Hello dear readers! We're starting off another week, and this time we gave ourselves a break with a really easy theme... button-down shirts! Easy because Vica and I both work in offices, so shirts are such a basic part of our day-to-day life, and always a favorite of mine to dress up a casual outfit.

To get this week started, I chose 4 pretty button-down shirts and made a few outfits with them.

Olá leitores(as) queridos(as)! Começando mais uma semana de Occupy, e dessa vez a gente resolveu ir com um tema mais tranquilo: camisas! É mais tranquilo porque eu e a Vica trabalhamos em escritório, então estamos super acostumadas a usar camisa no nosso dia a dia. Eu adoro também para fazer looks mais simples ficarem mais arrumadinhos.

Guest / convidada: Ísis Borges

Our guest today is Ísis Borges, she is the manager of a super cool local shop. Pandorga is this amazing street shop, located in a cool neighborhood here in Porto Alegre. Pandorga is a collective shop, which means that every month they have new artists, designers and clothes from all over being sold on the shop. How cool is that?

Ísis is someone who likes fashion and knows about it. Here is a brief description of her:

Who is Ísis? I sew, I model and I make clothes, it's my vocation. I own a brand of accessories called Mancupia, that has been my business for the past 3 years. I'm the manager of Pandorga, and I studied business administration in college. I believe that the clothes we wear are a way of communicating with the world and I end up being some kind of fashion consultant for my friends.

What is your style? I think it's something really personal: clothes and dressing up are really part of my day. I'm not methodic, I chose what to wear accordingly to my humor and what I want to represent on a given day.

How do you buy shoes/clothes/accessories? There are some colors that match my skin (which is quite fair), so, I try to stick to those colors. If something calls my attention and makes me comfortable, I usually buy it.

What is the last thing you bought? A long Nini Haas skirt that was on sale.

What do you think of spending a year without shopping? I think there are very cool movements for consuption awareness and to make people more conscious about shopping less. The creative use of the clothes avoids waste and spending a year without buying is to rethink the role that clothes play in our lives.

Nossa convidada de hoje é a Ísis Borges, que é gerente de uma loja local super bacana. A Pandorga é essa loja de rua que fica num charmoso bairro aqui de Porto Alegre. A Pandorga é uma loja coletiva, o que significa que todo mês eles têm novos artistas, designers e estilistas de todo canto expondo na loja. É muito legal! 


A Ísis é uma pessoa que gosta de e conhece moda. Aqui vai uma breve descrição:

Quem é você? 
Ísis Borges; costura, modela e pilota por vocação; tem uma marca de acessórios, a Mancupia (sem acento, mesmo!), há 3 anos; gerencia a Loja Pandorga aqui em Porto Alegre; é Administradora por formação. Acredita que o vestuário é uma maneira de se comunicar com o mundo e acaba prestando consultoria de moda para uma pá de amigas.


Qual seu estilo?
Acredito que seja algo bastante autoral: a roupa e o vestir estão totalmente internalizados no meu dia. Não acredito que exista algum processo de escolha mais metódico. Acabo me vestindo de acordo com o meu humor e com quem eu quero representar naquele dia.


Como costuma ser seu processo de compra de roupas/sapatos/acessórios?
Tenho algumas cores que me favorecem (minha pele é muito clara) então, tento ir nessas cores. Se algo me agrada e faz eu me sentir confortável ao vestir, costumo comprar. 


Qual a última peça que comprou?
Uma saia longa da Nini Haas que estava em promoção.


O que acha de passar um ano inteiro sem comprar?
Acho que existem movimentos muito bacanas de conscientização de compra e do não-consumo em excesso. O uso criativo das roupas evita o desperdício e passar um ano sem comprar é repensar o papel que a vestimenta tem na nossa vida.

I have to tell you that I hate winter. I simply hate cold weather. These are rough months for me. I always feel like I'm not going to survive and make it till the summer (am I overly dramatic or what?). Also now, summer has another appeal: after Dec 31st, 2012, I'll be able to buy clothes again! So I am longing for the summer even more!

Tenho que dizer que odeio o inverno. Simplesmente odeio clima frio. Esses meses são terríveis pra mim. Sempre sinto como se eu não fosse sobreviver e chegar até o verão (sou super dramática ou o quê?). Star Gazing / Olhando as Estrelas

On a week with no theme, there's nothing more freeing than wearing a dress that I made. I saw this starry dress while window shopping at Nasty Gal, and I fell in love with the fabric. I had some white and black starry fabric on my stash, that I have bought to make some summer pjs, but after seeing that dress, I had to use that fabric for something else! It was not exactly the same fabric or pattern, but somewhat similar. I think the dress turned out alright, and I love how it feels to wear it. And the pattern is more my style than the one from Nasty Gal (if only I was still 15...).

Na semana de tema livre, não tem nada mais libertador do que usar um vestido que eu mesma fiz. Eu vi um vestido na Nasty Gal outro dia que eu me apaixonei, e como eu tinha esse tecido branco de estrelinhas na minha pilha, que eu comprei para fazer um pijama, resolvi que iria aproveitar e fazer um vestido inspirado no da Nasty Gal. O modelo é diferente, e o tecido tem estrelas menorzinhas, mas no fim achei que esse ficou mais a minha cara, e é super comfortável!
