Guest Blogger / Leitora Convidada: Emily in Heels

Hey Everyone! I'm Emily of Running in Heels, and I'm so thrilled Anita asked me to do a guest post for Occupy the Wardrobe. Today, I'd love to share with you some of my favorite Spring trends that I think everyone can embrace.

The first, patterned pants. These can be a little scary at first, but I encourage you to go for it! The ones I've chosen would be flattering on any build, and paired with a simple top are a great way to add some color and flair to your wardrobe.

The second, little white dresses, are classic pieces that belong in every closet. White dresses are girlish and simple and make you look elegant without trying too hard. Plus, they can be accessorized with just about any color, and are the perfect backdrop to statement pieces.

Which brings me to the last spring trend you should go for: tangerine color pops. Tangerine is around to stay, and will easily make the transition to summer. Tangerine makes you seem awake, alert, and a bit flirty:)

I hope you love all these pieces as much as I do! I encourage you to go out on a limb with your wardrobe this spring and wear something that makes you smile!

Thanks again to Anita for having me on Occupy the Wardrobe!

xo.

Oi pessoal!

Beijos,
Emily.

Fresh Fashion Trends, As Seen in Paris at the Couture and Men’s Fashion Shows

Hello all! My name is Jen, and I am a costume designer/technician turned blogger/writer, so when Anita asked me to contribute a few thoughts on fashion to her blog, I was thrilled! I started designing at a young age when I would put on fashion shows for my family with my sisters as models. This morphed into sewing lessons from age 12 on up. Since then I’ve worked as a professional costumer and learned to fit, tailor, cut, and all that other fun stuff. As a matter of fact, rare is the day I don’t notice the cut of someone’s clothes that I pass on the street or the fabu accessories my co-worker is wearing.

For this post I am going to start off by identifying a few fierce, fashion trends. There is a fashion photographer and blogger who shoots not just fashions on the runway or in the studio, but fashions and fashionable people on the street. While I was looking through his collection of shots for Style.com of the couture and men’s fashion week attendees, I noticed a few trends that the fashion savvy are wearing. Many of these are more winterish attire, but with a little imagination can be applied almost anywhere. I also found that many of my friends are already wearing these fierce trends. Below you will see my trend list with photos of friends and family modeling.

40s veil
Reminiscent of 40s fashion, this is a trendsetting piece, and I was so proud to see my friend Mindi sporting it at the opening night of Rigoletto at Utah Symphony | Utah Opera:

Mindi and her son Z

Floppy-brimmed felt hat and fringe
Channeling Faye Dunaway (and the sportswear of the 70s), several of the fashion savvy were sporting the large brimmed felt hats or fringed accessories at the couture shows. Here my sis Julienne's hat:

Floods and colorful socks (pour l’homme)
I love bright, multicolored socks, so imagine my delight on seeing scads of young men sporting them under their upturned jeans. Alas, I don’t know if you could get away with the cuffed/shortened jeans here in the US. Thoughts?

Stripes
I believe you all remember Anita’s fabulous post about stripes: she hit the nail on the head. And Michele’s post where she modeled the skirt with chevroned (diagonal) stripes? Amazing!

Fur
Fur has seen a comeback in the last few seasons, but you want to find a fresh take on it. I completely fell in love with this fur stole when I saw it, especially because it’s purple!

Scarves
Scarves have been all the rage for the last four years, and they aren’t going anywhere soon! I noticed that the gentlemen in particular looked fabulous with their scarves at the men’s fashion shows. Below is a pic of my sister Jaelynn scarved—I don’t think anyone wears them better than her.

Belted jackets and sweaters
Layers are so fabulous for winter, but what about a belt over your jacket or sweater? I saw more than one of these styles worn by the fashion savvy. I convinced my mom she wanted to model the style here:

Feathers
I’m sure you’ve all noticed the influx of feather accessories on the market. They are hot, hot, hot. Here I’m modeling a necklace and earrings, though, your feathers could come in many other styles and shapes.

Bold colors
Bold is beautiful: especially bold colors. Spring is seeing neon! It’s like a return of the 80s. I don’t own too many neon pieces or accessories, but bold colors I can do. Here my friend Chelsea (on the left) rocks a bold blue scarf with complimenting eye shadow:

It’s pretty amazing that all I have to do is look around and find fashion inspiration in the peeps around me. Feel free to submit pics of what you see as emerging fashion trends orthe fashionable around you wearing something like these, and occupy your wardrobe! I know you have something that will fit one of these fresh fashions.
