5 steps to an organized closet / 5 passos para organizar o seu armário

Take everything out of your wardrobe and throw it on your bed. I meant, EVERYTHING, clothes, shoes, accessories (bags, jewelry, belts, think of everything). I know it won't look pretty, but it's truly the best way to start with a clean slate closet, totally empty. You might want to plan to do it on a weekend when you have no other plans.

(PS: If taking everything out of the closet seems way too overwhelming for you —I still recommend it, though— our fellow wardrobe occupier Carol suggests that you do it by parts. First organize all of your shoes, then all your shirts, then the dresses... and so on).

Evaluate the space you have now. Do you need to hang extra rods, get extra boxes for storage, get more hangers, add another shelf? Make any modifications now.

Look at all your clothes with attention and answer the following questions honestly:

• Have I worn this in the last year?
• Does it flatter my body?
• Do I feel good in it?
• Does it fit?
• Is it worn out, with holes, stains?

If you answer yes to any of those, consider:

• Getting rid of it.
• If it doesn't fit or it is stained, is it worth to try to fix it? If not, get rid of it.

Make 2 piles for the clothes you are getting rid of:

1. Clothes, shoes, and accessories that are in good shape.
2. Clothes, shoes and accessories that are worn out, stained, ripped.. you get the gist.

With the first pile, you can either donate to a local charity or you can organize a clothing swap with your friends (you'll see a post on how to organize a clothing swap soon). The second pile can turn out to be really good rag material.

And another very important question you should ask yourself:

Is my closet so full, I can't fit everything inside? Darling, if the answer to that is yes, then you should definitely get rid of some things, or invest in some extra storage to help you stay organized and aware of everything you had. Remember: out of sight, out of mind.

Now try everything that's left on. Really, you'll thank me for that. Then repeat step 2.

Now you have the best of the best to work with on your hands, and that perfect closet just within reach. Hang your clothes by category and then by color, for example hang all work dresses together and separated by color, then do the same with your summer dresses, and so on. The same goes for the clothes that go folded in your wardrobe. Make sure all your clothes face the same way on the hangers.

Last but not least... get creative. Now is the perfect time to tackle on all those projects you wanted to do anyway. Get boxes for all your shoes, take a polaroid picture of the shoe (or make a drawing of it you are so inclined) stick in the box. You can also use a pin board to organize all your necklaces and jewelry. You can get little pretty dishes to put your small knick-knacks. There are many cool and easy projects out there that you can do it on an afternoon. I've separated a few links for you to check out and get inspired:

And my all time favorite from Maegan: A place for odds and ends, where she uses a shoe organizer to organize everything... but shoes! I have two of those over the door shoe organizers, I use one for my jewelry and belts, and the other for my winter small things, such as gloves, hats and earmuffs.

You can take this opportunity to inventory your clothes (like we did before starting occupy, here's a handy spreadsheet Vica came up with, that you can download and use it) and make a list of what you absolutely need to buy new. But be wise, make sure any new additions to your wardrobe matches at least three other items on your wardrobe. But in the spirit of Occupy the Wardrobe... instead of buying, try a clothing swap with your friends!
Important: Repeat this process twice a year for maximum closet organization!

Vica: Vestido da sexta-feira / A dress for Friday

Como vocês já sabem, teremos temas semanais para nossos looks e essa semana o tema foi VESTIDO. Adoro vestidos, resolvi tomar vergonha na cara e ao menos contar os vestidos, já que meu inventário anda se arrastando. Descobri que tenho mais do que pensava: são 40 vestidos, de vários tipos, inclusive 3 vestidos de festa. 

Segunda-feira fui trabalhar com um vestido longo de verão, no calor não gosto muito de usar calças. E recebi meu pacote da Amanda Monteiro, com um vestido lindo que eu tinha encomendado antes de 2011 acabar. Tinha planejado usar o vestido hoje, mas aí choveu e esfriou um pouco, então fui trabalhar de calças jeans com um vestido/sobre legging por cima.

Algumas pessoas acharam caro o preço que eu paguei pelo vestido (que está no site). A minha opinião é a seguinte: vou na Renner, C&A, Marisa e vejo um vestido de R$100, vou comprar? Não compro. Pouco me importa que dá pra parcelar em mil vezes, prefiro ter uma peça mais exclusiva e de melhor qualidade, pagando um pouco mais e não me endividando (porque parcela, sinceramente, só serve pra gente se endividar). Se eu tenho dinheiro pro que eu quero, compro. Se não tenho, não compro. Simples assim.

Na hora do almoço, minha querida amiga Cris veio almoçar comigo pra ser minha fotógrafa e tirei foto com o look que eu tinha pensado primeiro (com o vestido Amanda Monteiro). As fotos ainda contam com a participação especial da minha mais nova "filha", a Florence!

Também foi legal porque a Cris desapegou do armário dela e eu ganhei uma camisa e dois terninhos de presente. E trocamos um vestido vermelha dela por um vestido vermelho meu!

Pintei as unhas de azul, pensando que ia combinar, combinou? Usei Big Universo na cor Celestial, o 682 da Hits numa das unhas, e o Revlon cheiroso na cor Mint Fizz em outra.

O anel eu ganhei de presente há muitos anos e os brincos não lembro onde comprei, mas faz tempo. O vestido é da Amanda Monteiro, como eu já disse e as sapatilhas são Bianca Molozzi.

As you already know, we have weekly themes for our looks and this week the theme was DRESS. I love dresses, I decided to do something about my inventory and at least count the dresses I have. I  found more than I thought: there are 40 dresses of various types, including 3 party dresses.


Monday I went to work wearing a summer dress, in the summer I don't like to wear pants. And I received my package from Amanda Monteiro, with a beautiful dress I had ordered before the end of 2011. I had planned to use the dress today, but then it rained and cooled a little, so I went to work in jeans with a dress on top.

Some people said that I paid a high price for the dress (which is on the website). My opinion is: I go to Renner, C & A, Marisa (let's say H&M or Forever 21, for comparatives) and I see a $ 100 dress, do I buy? I don't. I do not care that they allow you to split the price into a thousand small payments (this is something, I found out, just Brazilians do and that's why many people here are in debt), I'd rather have a more exclusive piece and best quality, paying a little more and not going into debt (because, frankly, that possibility of spliting payments is just so you get into debt). If I have money for the thing I want, I buy it. If I don't, then I don't buy. As simple as that.


At lunchtime, my dear friend Cris came to have lunch with me to be my photographer and we took photos with the look that I had first thought (with the dress Amanda Monteiro). The pictures still have the special participation of my new "daughter" Florence!


It was also cool because Cris decided to spare some of her old clothes and she gave me a shirt and two suits. And we swaped a red dress for a red dress!


I painted my nails blue, thinking that it would match with the dress, whatcha think? I used Big Universo in the color Celestial, Hits Speciallita 682 in one nail, and Revlon scented enamel in Mint Fizz in another.


The ring I got as a gift many years ago and the earrings I don't remember where I bought, but it was quite a long time ago.

Vica: redescobrindo o armário / rediscovering my closet

Minhas amigas sempre me dizem que eu tenho montes de roupa. Eu sempre acho que já tive mais, agora nem tanto.

O negócio é que eu adoro roupas coloridas e acabo comprando muitas peças que não combinam entre si. E sandálias, muitas sandálias. Já tive mais sapatos, andei me desfazendo de alguns, mas ainda tem um montão.

O problema do meu guardarroupa são as muitas roupas verdes que eu tenho (amo verde, mas acho que deveria diversificar mais), e a falta das lingeries básicas, bem como peças básicas de trabalho. Não deu tempo de comprar e agora vou ficar mendigando essas coisas pro namorado, amigos e parentes.

Não terminei meu inventário ainda, mas pra vocês terem uma idéia, eu não tenho nenhum sutiã branco! Não é uma desgraça? Tenho alguns cor de pele, mas acho que um branco e outro preto (tenho 3 pretos, mas não são muito confortáveis) é o mínimo.

Estou fazendo meu inventário a passos de tartaruga. Meu guardarroupa é pequeno e tenho coisas guardadas em malas e sacolas. Esse final de semana resolvi abrir uma sacola onde eu tinha roupas separadas pra levar pro conserto. Acabei descobrindo 3 calças pretas pra trabalhar, que precisam de ajuste e eu tinha esquecido totalmente a respeito delas. Passei o inverno alternando umas calças mais leves e passando frio, quando tinha 3 bem apropriadas e esquecidas numa sacola. É o que a preguiça faz pela gente.

Também achei uma blusa preta super bonita que o problema é uma mancha no punho, que eu acho que foi pintando o cabelo que eu consegui estragar a peça. Mas é só tingir a peça de preto de novo, que provavelmente resolve o problema.

Achei, ainda, uma blusa e uma calça jeans que só precisam de uns pontinhos e botões novos. Coisa que eu mesma posso fazer e ia levar na costureira e gastar sem necessidade. Prometo que vou arrumar e colocar fotos aqui.

Tenho estado bem concentrada em não gastar. Como disse a Anita nesse post, estou sendo mais criteriosa com tudo, e até agora não comprei nada pra mim.

No sábado reaproveitei a saia da sexta, transformando-a num vestido. Como eu tenho apenas um cinto, e ele é preto, acabei usando um broche de tecido pra deixá-lo mais acinturado. Foi uma coisa bem diferente pra mim, não sou das mais criativas quando o assunto é fazer coisas (sou mais criativa com idéias) e prefiro comprar coisas que estejam prontas pra usar.

Hoje tivemos a grata notícia de que saímos no jornal, na página 3 do Jornal do Comércio. Uma pequena nota intitulada "Sacrifício Extremo"... hehehehe 

My friends always tell me that I have lots of clothes. I think I've had more, not so much anymore.

The thing is, I love colorful clothes and I end up buying many pieces that do not match each other. And sandals, many sandals. I've had more shoes, I've been disposing of some, but I still have a lot of shoes.

The problem of my closet is that I've got too many green pieces (I love green, but I think I should diversify more), and lack of basic lingerie, as well as basic pieces to go to work . There was no time to buy and now I'll be begging for these things to my boyfriend, friends and relatives.

My inventory is still not finished, but to give you an idea, I have no white bra! It is a disgrace! I have some of skin color, but I think one white and one black (I have 3 black, but those are not very comfortable) is the minimum.

I'm doing my inventory to a snail's pace. My wardrobe is small and I have things stored in suitcases and bags. This weekend I decided to open a bag where I had some clothes that need repairing. I found 3 black pants to go to work, they need adjusting and I had totally forgotten about them. I spent the winter alternating lighter fabric pants and freezing when I had those 3 that are appropriate and they were lost in a bag. That's what makes for lazy people.

I also found a super nice black blouse which a stain on one arm, I think I did that coloring my hair. But probably just a home made dye would be able to fix this stain.

I found also a blouse and some jeans that just need sewing and new buttons. Something I can do myself, but I put those apart to take them to a repair shop and spend money unecessarily. I promise I'll fix them and take pictures.

I've been very focused on not spending. As Anita said in this post, I'm being more careful with everything, and so far I haven't bought anything new (no makeup, no nothing).

On Saturday I turned the friday skirt onto a dress. Because I have only one belt, and it is black, I ended up using a pin to make it more "dressy". This was something very unusual to me. I'm not very much of a creative person in terms of making things (I'm creative with ideas) and I'd rather buy something ready to wear. 

Today we have great news: there's a mention about Occupy the Wardrobe on page 3 of Jornal do Comércio, a local newspaper. It's called "Extreme Sacrifice" hahahaha (picture above)

Últimas Compras do Ano / Last Shopping Haul of the year!

Aproveitei as super promoções do pós Natal aqui na minha cidade, mais uns créditos que tinha na Forever 21 que queria torrar antes de 2012 começar assim eu não caia na tentação. Olha, gastando pouquissimo consegui adicionar vários básicos (e uma ou outra peça mais extravagante) no meu armário. Além disso, estou incluindo os sapatos que ganhei de presente de Natal esse ano aqui nesse post, só para mostrar mais umas coisinhas novas por aqui!).

I took advantage of the post-Christmas sales here in Salt Lake, plus a few credits I had at Forever 21, to go shopping for the last time for a while. And I managed to get a lot of my necessary basics and a little extra extravagant thing-y without spending a lot. I'm also including some Christmas gifts in this post, just so I can show them off!).

Para começar, a maior pechincha de todas: saia maxi da Anthropologie por 21 dólares (preço original era US$ 158!!). Eu amo saia maxi, tenho algumas, mas nenhuma tão linda e chique quanto essa da Anthropologie. E assim também finalmente consegui ter algo da Anthropologie no meu armário (só entro naquela loja para comprar coisa pra casa, as roupas são maravilhosas, mas MUITO caras). Nem acreditei quando vi o preço final!

To get started, the best deal I got: a maxi skirt from Anthropologie that cost 21 dollars (the original price was 158!). I love maxi skirts and have a few, but none so fancy as this one. And I now finally own something from Anthropologie in my wardrobe! I usually only shop for home things there, since the clothes are gorgeous but way out of my budget. 

Outra pechincha boa foi o tudo de coisa que consegui levar da Forever 21 só com 20 dólares (okay, eu tinha um tanto de créditos também que ajudaram, a maioria das peças que eu comprei não precisei pagar). Arrematei 3 camisetas básicas e lisas que são ótimas para usar para trabalhar com uma calça ou saia mais arrumada e um blazer. Também são ótimas nesse frio para colocar por baixo dos suéteres e camisas. Também comprei uma camiseta de manga comprida de listras fininhas que eu estava procurando a tempos! Essa ficou bem boa no corpo, e o tecido parece tecido de pijama! Pra finalizar levei um lenço, um guarda chuva, uma corrente, um par de luvas bem quentinhas, meias e uma bolsa caramelo que é uma cor que eu não tinha.

Another good deal was all the stuff I got from Forever 21 (the credits helped, but still, I had to do two trips there because I couldn't use all of my credit!). I got 3 basic tees for $5 each. I love wearing them with business bottoms and a blazer. They are also great for layering in this cold. I also got a striped, long-sleeved t-shirt that I've been after for quite a while (I wanted one exactly like this one I got). I also got a little scarf, an umbrella, a necklace, a pair of fuzzy gloves, socks and a nice tan, fake-leather bag. 

A minha outra loja preferida, a Ann Taylor Loft estava com 50% de desconto em tudo, e eu aproveitei para comprar uma camiseta preta de manga comprida básica que eu não achei na Forever 21, e uma saia plissada preta que eu andava querendo desde que li o livro da Jessica Quirk do What I Wore (super bacana o livro, estou usando para me inspirar bastante).

Another one of my favorite stores, Loft, had everything for 50% off, so I got a basic black long-sleeved t-shirt that I couldn't find at Forever 21, and a black pleated skirt that I've been craving since I read Jessica Quirk's book, What I Wore (really good book, I recommend it). 

Agora, essa comprinha abaixo não trouxe do shopping, até porque essa loja não existe em Salt Lake City. Mas achei que seria uma justa homenagem ao blog "Um ano sem Zara," que uma das minhas últimas compras do ano fosse justamente na Zara. Então fui no site e procurei por umas peças mais baratas (ainda não to com essa bola toda de comprar peças lá fora de promoção) e comprei essa calça preta jeans que serve super bem (e não vou precisar fazer a barra, milagre) e essa camisa preta de estrelas (minha estampa preferida). Fiquei feliz.

Now, this two pieces I did not bring with me from the mall, since this store cannot be found in Salt Lake City anyway. But I thought it would be a nice hommage to the blog that inspired this blog, Um ano sem Zara, that one of my last purchases was from Zara. I can't really afford most of the things on that store anyway, so I looked for some good deals on their Sale section, and found this black skinny jeans and the star shirt. I was pretty happy. 

E finally, a única peça que comprei fora de promoção foi uma camisetinha básica da GAP listrada.

And finally, the only thing I paid full price was this basic striped tee from GAP. 

Mas também queria mostrar para vocês os sapatos lindos que ganhei de presente de Natal: a mãe do namorado mandou um TOMS preto gliterizado (esse sapato é febre por aqui, mas eu nunca tinha visto um que eu gostasse até esse cheio de glitter aparecer por aqui, é lindo!), e a minha amiga Ana que entende do assunto (ahem, sapatos) me presenteou com um maravilhoso sapato da MIA, uma marca bem legal de Miami. Olha só se eles não são obras de arte no pé:

Okay, se vocês se lembram do meu post sobre o que faltava no meu armário de acordo com o meu inventário, eu comentei que precisava de três items: camisas, calças e um salto vermelho. Além das camisetas que vocês vem ae, eu comprei mais uma camisa parecida com essa da Zara na Forever 21. E as camisetinhas básicas são também para ajudar a compor meus looks, vamos combinar né gente, eu trabalho com marketing e design, e camisa e terno não são bem o forte na minha área. Eu gosto de combinar camisetas básicas com saias, calças e blazers mais clássicos. Mas falando em calça gente, não deu. Eu tentei, eu experimentei, mas a realidade é que eu odeio calça. Resolvi aceitar e para resolver o problema comprei essa calça da Zara que é bem preta e com bota e blazer ninguém nem vai notar que não é calça social. E me rendi as saias, é o que gosto mesmo, o que me faz sentir bem e elegante, porque não aproveitar? E o sapato vermelho, no mesmo dia que escrevi aquele post comprei o sapato que usei para ilustrar o post. Chegou e é ótimo. Missão cumprida e que venha 2012!

Alright, if you read my post about the 3 items I needed to buy before the challenge started, you'll remember I said I needed: shirts, pants and red heels. So, besides the basic tees you saw above, I also got a shirt at Forever 21 similar to the one from Zara, and I deemed myself satisfied. Let's face it: I'm in a creative field and business wear tend to not be exactly required. I do have pieces that would make me fit in in any business meeting with corporate people, but on my day to day there's no place for them. I like to mix my basic tees with more classic cut skirts, blazers and pants. Speaking of pants, here's my confession: I hate them. I tried and tried pants on this few weeks, and the fact is I hate them and I won't wear them even if I have 20 in my wardrobe. So I decided the number I had was enough and instead got the super black skinny jeans from Zara that worn with a Blazer, a nice shirt and boots, will look business-y enough. And then I invested in that pleated black skirt from Loft, and together with my extensive collection of skirts (including three very respectable pencil skirts in neutral colors) I am ready to rock the work wear. And the red heels? That same day I wrote that post I got the ones from BCBG I pictured in the post. They are gorgeous. Mission accomplished, 2012 here we come!

Anita: Inventário / Inventory

Eu resolvi parar de fazer o inventário quando cheguei no item 397 401. Só faltava inventariar as meias, mas vamos combinar, contar meia ninguém merece.

Eu usei uma planilha de dados para computar todos os itens de roupa que eu tenho no armário, incluindo quantidade, marca e cor. O que achei legal da planilha, é que ao decorrer de 2012 eu vou marcar cada vez que uso uma determinada peça de roupa, para depois de um ano descobrir o que uso mais e o que quase nunca vê a luz do dia. Achei que seria um bom jeito para depois que o desafio acabar, entender o que é realmente necessário comprar, ou o que é diversão.

Suéteres e mais suéteres / Sweaters and more sweaters

Coisas interessantes que percebi:

• De longe a loja que eu mais compro é a Forever 21. 75 itens no meu armário vieram de lá (entre roupas e acessórios). Seguido por Ann Taylor Loft (19 items) e Express (16 items) onde compro exclusivamente roupa para usar no trabalho. 
• Faz realmente muito frio por aqui, pois eu tenho 17 suéteres no armário. E garanto que todos são bem usados pelo estado do cotovelo de metade deles, e a quantidade de bolinhas nos outros. 
• Mas de longe o que mais tenho no armário é vestido. 37, incluindo os de festa, os 2 que só uso na piscina, e uns 4 bem velhinhos que uso pra ficar em casa. Eu adoro vestido, acho que é uma das peças que mais veste bem o meu corpo, e é muito fácil estar sempre bem vestida com um. 
• O que menos tenho no armário é calça para trabalhar: 3. Mas eu já falei sobre isso aqui. 
• Acabei de me dar conta que não contei meus biquinis. Mal ae galera, mas tá -2 graus por aqui, é fácil esquecer que eu sequer tenho biquini no armário. Mas tenho, tão escondidos no fundo da minha gaveta de pijamas. Tenho 3 biquinis e um maiô de natação, então adiciona na lista. Não são muitos, mas deixa eu te contar que a praia mais perto fica a 12 horas de distância de carro, e a piscina do condominio só fica aberta por 4 meses, então o que tenho dá mais que pro gasto. 
• Cor preferida, alguém aí quer dar um palpite? Preto é claro. Mais de 70 items no meu armário são dessa cor. Além de ser super básico, eu sou de opinião que: se tá em dúvida vai de preto. Não tem erro. Minha cor preferida mesmo é um roxo tipo vinho, que nem esse do vestido da Zellweger, mas nada no armário tem essa cor. 
• As duas peças mais antigas do meu armário são uma jaqueta jeans da Hering de 1996, e um vestido prateado que comprei para o aniversário de 15 anos de uma das minhas melhores amigas em 1999. 
• Eu gosto muito de gatos. No meu armário tenho 7 items com gatos: 4 camisetas, um colar, um cachecol e um gorrinho. 
• Minha marca de sapato preferida é a Melissa (não que eu precisasse de um inventório para saber): tenho 7 sapatos da marca (e acho pouco). 
• Já disse que é frio por aqui? Tenho 9 pares de botas, e uso todas até cairem as solas (eu andava com uma média de detonar uma bota por ano, por isso esse ano já comprei 4 pra não ter problema, além disso a promoção tava ótima, comprei 3 e só paguei 2 e sairam praticamente cada uma por 50 dólares na Wanted — esse post não é pago, eu realmente sou fã da Wanted).

Minhas botas mais pesadas / My line of heavy-duty boots

Antes de terminar esse post e desejar um bom resto de dia para vocês, vale lembrar que esse número (401) vai aumentar um pouquinho nos próximos dias quando eu vou a caça de umas camisas de trabalho que preciso comprar antes do desafio começar, para garantir uma moça bem vestida sentada no meu cubículo pelo ano todo (e vamos garantir que essa moça seja eu, né?). Mas depois do dia 31 de Dezembro o contador pára, e só entra roupa nova na planilha se eu ganhar de presente ou trocar. 

So guys, I stopped doing this inventory when I reached the 401 items count, with only missing my socks, because, let's be honest, no one deserves to count socks. 

I thought using a spreadsheet was a cool idea because I could find out some of my trends. I marked the items, quantities, brand and color in my spreadsheet. I also thought it would be cool to mark each time I wear each item in there, so when 2012 is over and I'm back at shopping, I'll know my habits better so when I shop, I'll know what is really necessary and what it isn't. 

Here are a few interesting things I've noticed from the data I gathered:

• I'm a big sucker for Forever 21. 75 items in my wardrobe came from that store (clothing items and accessories). Forever 21 is followed by Ann Taylor Loft (19 items) and Express (16 items) where I mostly shop for work clothes.
• It gets really cold here, because I have 17 sweaters in my wardrobe. And they get well-used because you can see a few of them could use a few elbow patches.
• By far the most popular item in my wardrobe are dresses. I have 37 of them, including party, pool and a couple of really old ones I only wear at home. Dresses are my favorite clothing item for sure, they look good and you're always well-dressed in one.

• What I'm lacking in my closet are work pants. But I already talked about this here. 
• Shoot, I just realized I forgot to count my bikinis. But hey, it's 30F outside, its easy to forget I even own bikinis when they are in the back of some wardrobe. But I do have them, 3 bikinis and a swimsuit. That's not a lot for a Brazilian, but here in the US I live 12 hours away from a beach, and the poolis only open 4 months of the year around here. Therefore the amount I have is plenty. 
• Anyone wants to take a stab at what color dominates my wardrobe? Black, obviously. More than 70 items are in this color. Besides being a total basic, I've always adhered to the mantra: if in doubt, wear black. But my real favorite color is plum, like this dress that Zellwege is wearing here, but I don't really own anything in this color.
• The two oldest items in my wardrobe are a jeans jacket from 1996 and a silver dress I bought for a sweet sixteen in 1999.
• I love cats, therefore I have cats in my wardrobe. 7 to be exact: in 4 tees, a necklace, a scarf and a beanie.
• My favorite shoe brand is the Brazilian Melissa (not that I needed a spreadsheet to tell me that): I own 7 pairs of shoes from this brand. 
• Have I told you it's cold here? I own 9 pairs of boots, and I wear them off. I went ahead and bought 4 new ones this winter in the hopes they will last longer if I wear them in a sort of rotation. Also, they were all in a great deal from Wanted (by the way, this post is not sponsored by any brand, I really do love Wanted boots), and I got my boots for about 50 each after all the sales applied.

Before I finish off, I'd just wanted to let you know that my 401 items might still increase a little in the next few days, since I have a few items I'd like to add to my wardrobe before the challenge starts. But after the 31st, whichever number I'm at locks, and the spreadsheet can only change if I get clothes as gifts of if I exchange something I own for something else.

Um ano sem comprar roupa, será? A year without shopping for clothes... really?

A nossa inspiração pra esse desafio veio do blog Um Ano sem Zara. Pra quem (ainda) não conhece a história, a Jojo, criadora do blog, decidiu ficar um ano sem comprar nada, e publica um look por dia.

Volta e meia dou uma olhadinha lá, e ela tem roupas lindas e caras! E muitas roupas! Eu tenho umas 3 peças da Zara, só, e nunca coloquei meus pés na Maria Bonita, porque não tenho dinheiro pras roupas de lá.

Aí bradei no twitter: quero ver fazer um ano sem Zara com o meu guarda-roupa! hehehe A Anita e a Fer responderam que faziam, sem problemas. Fiquei nessa sinuca de bico e acabei topando entrar no desafio também.

A primeira sugestão que eu dei foi a de que fizéssemos um inventário de roupas, sapatos e acessórios. Como ainda temos uns dias antes de 2012 chegar, esse inventário vai servir pra gente ver como andam nossos guarda-roupas e vai permitir que a gente compre algumas coisas que nos farão falta nesse um ano sem comprar.

Não fiz o meu ainda, mas sei há muito que meu maior problema são roupas para trabalhar. São escassas, por mais estranho que possa parecer. Explico: sou advogada. Logo, roupas de trabalho pra mim são quase uniforme. Mas eu não sou muito conformada, então tenho 2 terninhos só, e 3 camisas. É difícil se virar só com isso. De resto, tenho muita roupa de verão (porque eu odeio inverno e insisto em fingir que ele não existe) e sandálias.

Além disso, eu tenho muitas peças precisando de reparos urgentes: saltos de sapato podres, calças largas, calças compridas demais, vestido que descosturou... e nunca dou jeito de ir até a costureira. Então uma das metas é reciclar e consertar tudo o que eu puder, pra ter as coisas em dia pra esse 2012 sem compras.

Lógico que a gente previu umas exceções, ainda estamos debatendo sobre elas e logo escreveremos sobre isso aqui.

O bom desse ano sem comprar vai ser a economia. Ando precisando de dinheiro pra viajar, quem sabe não vem dessa idéia? Nosso objetivo é, também, nos tornarmos mais conscientes sobre nossos hábitos de consumo. Mas confesso que vai ser difícil resistir a uma liquidação!

Our inspiration for this challenge came from the blog A Year Without Zara. For those who do not (yet) know the story, Jojo, the blog creator, decided to spend a year without buying anything, and she publishes a daily look using the clothes she already had.
Every now and then I take a peek there, and she has beautiful and expensive clothes ! And also a lot of clothes! I have about 3 pieces that I bought at Zara, and I have never put my feet at Maria Bonita, because I have no money for the clothes they sell.
Then I cried out on Twitter: I want to see who can spend a year without Zara with my wardrobe! LOL Fer and Anita said they could, no problem. So I felt I should also accept the challenge and here I am.

The first suggestion I made was that we did an inventory of clothing, shoes and accessories. As we still have a few days before 2012 arrives, this inventory will serve to see what we've got in our wardrobes and will allow us to buy some things that would be missed in one year without buying clothes.

I didn't do my inventory yet, but I know that my biggest problem are working clothes. I've got few, as strange as it may seem. Let me explain: I am a lawyer. Therefore, working clothes for me are almost like an uniform. But I'm not very into formalities, so I have only two suits and three shirts. It's hard to dress with few clothes. Moreover, I have a lot of summer clothes (because I hate winter and I insist on pretending that it does not exist) and sandals.

In addition, I have many pieces needing urgent repair: rotten high heels, baggy pants, pants that are too long, unraveled dresses ... and I never find the time to go to the seamstress. So one of the goals is to recycle and fix everything I can, to get things ready for my 2012 without shopping.

Of course we predicted a few exceptions, and we are still debating about them. Soon we'll write about it here.

The good part of this year without buying will be the economy. I've been needing money to travel, maybe it will come from this idea? Our goal is also to become more conscious about our spending habits. But I confess it will be hard to resist a sale!
